I'm looking for the rail material that is used at the OWC for Nessy, the picnic table, cheese wedge, etc. I think Aaron Gore is sliding on the same stuff on page 107 of August's Wakeboarding mag when he does the nose grind to shuv out. I guess if anyone knows, I'd like the name of the material and where I can get it. I've looked at Menards and Home Depot and found nothing. I've heard it called PVC sheeting, but I've found nothing under that name. _________________ Can't knock Wakeboarding, cuz of Wakeskating's origins. |

Try calling a large cabinet or millwork shop in your area and ask for AZEK. This is a brand name, and is fairly expensive, but it is a PVC sheet. Comes in many different thicknesses. I use it quite a bit in the millwork industry. I am in NC and could probably get it for you, but like I said it isn't cheap, and shipping would be a beotch. _________________ Sattelyte Wakeskates

yea, this stuff I've seen looks durable. I've something similar with stand alone shower panels. There also this stuff at Menards that is like white board material, it has a cardboard back/paper back. These guys must be sliding on something cheap that works well. _________________ Can't knock Wakeboarding, cuz of Wakeskating's origins. |

E-VILLWAKE, I'm building a floating rail. I have everything built. It's 3 feet by 20 feet, I just need to put some kind of sliding surface on top. I've purchased 22, 1.5" diamter PVC pipes ($75), but I don't want to mount them if I can find some other material. I want a flat picnic table type rail. Where can I get something other than pvc? I've looked around and no one can give me any help.[/b] _________________ Can't knock Wakeboarding, cuz of Wakeskating's origins. |

one of the guys at owc (the big russian guy) told me that the stuff they make their rails out is patented to them and super expensive.
you can try using lexan, its a type of acrylic that you can put in a break and crease just like metal. its pretty much like plexi glass but alot more durable and super slippery. we buy it at my work in 1/4" x 4' x 8' pieces for like 80 bucks, so yea its expensive but would work great. you can also get cheeper kinds of acrylic that wouldnt be quite at durable and wouldnt crease but still be super strong. I think home depot carries up to 1/4" in 4'x8' sheets for like $40-50 but possibly only 2'x4' for less money. Or you can look in the yellow pages for plastic companies in your area, they will definately have it. I think acrylic is the way to go even though its expensive its most likely what i would use.
plus acrylic is clear so you could put stickers and paint shitt on top of the rail that wouldnt get damages after the acrylic goes on.
oh yea and you can weld it with this special solvent stuff thats pretty cheap so all your spaces between 2 pieces can be filled so there are no cracks in the whole length of it. |

JamesBoardr, dont take this the wrong way but the teflon thin gis total bullshat. . for several reasons
1 Teflon is non stick so itd be slippry, but it has awful abasion resistance, too soft
2 Teflon vary rarely comes in sheets liek plywood
3 Teflon is soooooooooooo frikin expensive O dub cant even afford to use it
4 just incase you guys were wondering how I know this lets just say that all 27-28 of my dads patents involve Teflon, and I have tried every which way to use that shizzle its just to specialized and expensive all its good for is nonstick, resisting acid, and sterility I mean its VERY specialized stuff and kind of a pain to work with _________________ why dont you try playing hide and go Fvck yourself |

Thanks for all of your help everyone. I think I'll stick with the $70 worth of pvc I already have. I don't want to mount it, but it's prolly the cheapest. _________________ Can't knock Wakeboarding, cuz of Wakeskating's origins. |

The stuff i use for all the rails and boxes i build is called puck board, like classik5onit said its the stuff they use for hockey boards. Its almost indestructible, its the same stuff they put on snowboard boxes. you can get it for like 60 bucks a sheet at plastic shops. _________________ all i want to do is go wakeskating with out a full wetsuit, i hope the water warms up soon. |
