SleuCrew, Yeah I agree, my guess is more than half of the artists participating in Live 8 could give two shits about the African people, or anyone else besides themselves for that matter. It's all about publicity and trying to look like they are doing something good for others when all they are doing is filling their own bank accounts.

i highly highly doubt the musicians and assorted famous folks got payed anything much. bob geldof and those organizations for support of starving people were the only people fronting money. i'm not saying they're halfway decent people at all, but they couldn't have only done it for the money.
the point was to draw attention to the large amount of support (whole, half, or empty heartedly) for action on the matter of poverty in nations stuck in a dark age. they thought it would be more effective to put pressure on the g8 summit fatheads to have a bake sale than to have one themselves. i'd agree. even if they had charged admission and put it toward the cause less people would have come and gov. backed groups would sit back. civilian launched efforts like that aren't gangster gangster at the top of the list anyway.

but f.ck 'em i've got electricity and plumbing and sh.t...

satori*, None of the musicians were paid for the event, but they were given hearty gifts from the sponsors of the event as well as a VERY healthy tax write off!

sadly thats why half of these entertainers do these kinds of events.

i heard david gilmour said they do get proceeds from dvd sales and some other stuff. he said he's donating his and told all the other performers to do the same, which is pretty cool. BUT, he also said pink floyd won't be touring or anything and live8 was the one time thingo, WHICH IS NOT COOL.

in addition, i like mayonnaise.
and kfc.
but not together.
