New here but I did search this and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. This weekend was my first weekend trying to wakeskate and I could not get up after about 17 tries. I kept sucking in ungodly amounts of water and after a few seconds the pressure would become too much and the handle would come flying out of my hands and into the back of the boat. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong/what the boat driver could be doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated for I am hoping to get pretty into wakeskating because it looks like an extremely good time!

put the board under you in a sitting postition with your feet tilted slightly up so the board doesnt go away. let teh boat do all the work if you do it right youll just shoot up. oh and dont turn the board until its on the surface or else youll eat good luck and have fun with it Very Happy

yeah, most people put the board too far in front of them and they're plowing through the water...the skate should be underwater slighty tilted up toward the boat

try the underwater method. place the board under your feet and barely lift your toes creating small incline in the board. sit back in the chair position and hold on. be sure not to hold the board at to much of an angle where it will cause the board to "drag" a lot of water because it's very difficult to hold on.

don't turn/point the board until your board is completely underwater.

i HIGHLY suggest going to totalvid.com and downloading(renting) the snap wakeskating video for $2.99. it shows you two way so get up and it continues from there to more advanced tricks.

i think the rental last 7 days on your computer.

good luck.

yea i just started this weekend too and the same thing was happening to me, the rope just kept getting yanked out of my hands. I tried the underwater method and its really easy if u can get it positioned right but i could hardly get it to stay under my feet underwater. So i just went back to the other method and i finally got it. As soon as the boat starts pulling you just have to pull back hard and jus try to lift yourself up out of the water, it takes alot of strength to do it but its possible cuz thats the only way i was getting up consistently.

no no no...you shouldn't have to pull yourself out of the water...you shouldn't pull at all...Urinal Mint had it right

Just a thought, but maybe your driver is starting too fast? I was at a friend's cabin and he was trying to get up for the first time on a skate and kept on losing the rope every time until they started slower and then he was up right away...
