Do you wear a comp vest or Coast Guard Approved?

I like the comp vest WAY more, but Im worried of getting busted.

Has anyone had a run in with the ol lake police because of thier vest?

Yea, just last week. I was done with my set and was just taking off my fins, and this police seadoo pulls up. He was all, "How are you guys doing today?" Right then, I knew we were screwed. Our registration tabs were old, and I wasn't riding with a coast guard approved vest, so he gave us a ticket. The police dude asked me to read the inside of my vest to him, so I was like, "Uh...Medium?" I don't think he liked that.

I think in OR you just have to have enough CGA vests for the number of people in the boat, and be riding with something that looks like a vest and makes you float. Cops in general are pretty lame, but watercops are down there with meter maids Mad

Hmm me and david maus got stopped by a police boat, and he didnt have any tags on his ski and both of our vests are not uscg approved. We didnt get a ticket. I guess its kind of like driving with tint to dark on your car, yea its illegal but theres a 95% chace you will never get a ticket.

el, Yeah Oregon water cops are either super chill or total dicks... i have never had a problem with vests unless there were not enough uscg approved vests on the boat for everyone, other than that i have ridden past cops with no vest on at all and had then just look and watch me ride. I think it really just depends on the cop and the timing.

Well it sounds like most of you guys are riding with comp vest, and not too many problems.

My vest has no padding left and it serves as a fashion statement more than anything Shocked Laughing

I've only gotten pulled over once, but that's only because we were in the channel. I ride about 100-200 ft from deep enough water for their supercharged boats.

Nick Taylor, nylon vests with the padding ripped out are more comfortable then most neoprene wake vests.

in MN you dont need any kind of flotation device on you as long as there is one in the watercraft for you. so i ride with a hype punk vest but as long as there is a cga vest in the boat you are good. i found this out by e-mailing our MN DNR and asking because i was curious. id try e-mailing them to find out specifics about your state.

Yeah....about two weeks ago we were on a small lake that has never had a cop on it. I grew up on this lake! Well....Everyone on the lake know each other is cool with us riding and riding close to shore. A new guy that just moved on to the lake called the cops on us because we were about 120' from his dock. Well the cop tryed to get us for being to close to shore, but he could not because the law states as long as you are 100' away you are ok. He did give me a ticket for riding with a comp vest, $70.00. Since everyone in th boat rides with one and it could have been anyone of us that got the ticket we split the coat of ticket with everyone on the boat. so it only ended up being $15
