Got most of the parts here, my rope came today lets pray it is strong enough as I think it is, its WAY small though lol. Parts wise i just need the sprocket, the roller fairlead, nuts and bolts and then its all metal.

headhunter, are we talking impossible or just rough? Im pretty scrawny still,e like 140ish, but i plan on shore starting most of the time.
on the topic, does anyone know what the lowest HP and/or highest gearing that has been capable of deep water starts? My engine is 6.5hp (like most) an my gearing, at least initially, will be 3:1, maybe 4:1

ordered the sprocket today, went with a 40 tooth to begin with, gives me a .3 or roughly 3:1 ratio. i dont think it will be low enough for deep water starts but with my 6" spool (went with it for now because my dad has 6" stuff on hand) it will top out around 20mph which is fine for my first buildup. Going to order the metal tomorrow morning if i can wake up before i have to be at the lake for practice so it will be all ready on monday. Then i just need the roller fairlead to come in, grab a few nuts bolts an washers an that should be it. might order a throttle setup for it too its like $10

Norcalz71, hey i just read my comment and i hope it didnt come off the wrong way i was just in a rush when i posted it
deep water starts are def doable with those clutches but it takes a lot of driver/rider practice, and the clutch is weird, some times it will grab and yank u up and the recoil and u go back down into the water and some times its nothing. but fro a home build winch it will be fine and sliding into the water u be totaly fine.
when we had the grinch at the brodeo we were using the same clutch and everyone liked it, we had our final set up there but hadnt tested it out so we used wat we new worked. the set up on the grinch pulls up as smooth as a boat and would be one reason i would recomend buying one but im all for the home builts too and im sure anyone can figure out our clutch and could also fuind something bettter or different.

We went with a simple frame design, its thickwall tubing and doesn't budge at all. I am going to finish welding the spool today and give her a test run before we tear it down and clean up the welds and paint her.
p.s. If you are looking for spots try google earth, its aerial photos of the world. You can zoom in on most spots. I have zoomed in on radar lake and you can even see somebody wakeboarding at OWC.
