200$ might be enough to buy the rope... winches are selling for 1600$ plus... some people who do it themselves are doing so much cheaper, but for significantly more than 200$.

Oh and you won't be able to find too many websites dedicated to winch building. There really isn't too many people who have done this. I'm willing to guess and say that there is considerably less than 50 winches for wakeboarding/wakeskating in the world...and a majority of them are home brew prototypes.

Save up some cash, do some research on this site... PM the people who have built their own to learn more about it... to learn more

cassette315, if you got a motor that works, and someone that can weld, you are off to a pretty good start I think... let us know how it works out Smile

if you can wait a few weeks i can give you the run down on the winch i am almost ready to build. IF things work out it will be right around $400, more than $200 i know but still far cheaper than anything else. Just gotta build it yourself or with friends lol

i think that right there is probably the first winch? i know its the first one i ever saw, i think byerly had one first. I dont even know if you can still get it. For the cheapest route gotta make it yourself.

mitch, how many other people up there do you ride with? my friends "ride" but arent all into it and arent good. im not good either, lol, but i go a fair amount

Norcalz71, no friends that live really close except Lon (you might know him) but he wakeboards. I ride sometimes with Chris B and i plan on riding with Chris O, Scott A, and Steven more. No one wakeskates around benicia or vallejo except me and you that i know of.

bennyhill/Norcalz71, that was another early ReWind prototype, however that was not the first winch. The first known wake-related winch was a ReWind created by Tony Robinson and Thomas Horrel. It was debuted in Sfumato. Both Byerly and Grubb have ReWind winches now, as well as a few others including myself. The $850 is currently out of date. You can PM "The Winch" on here to find out more regarding ReWind Winches if you wish.

mitch, i live down on semple crossing if you know where that is, right down the street from the capital building. IMO we could get some decent rails going just pounded into the sand at either 9th street, 3rd street and possibly a floater or two behind my house, just have to swim out for those, 9th and 3rd we could just run down the beach with the rope and pull from the parts that kinda curve around.
