Quote: Redmond, WA, 1/17/06 - Robert Archer, CEO of HO Sports Company, Inc.,
today announced the addition of Timothy J. Joyce to the HO/Hyperlite
management team. Tim will assume the role of President/COO effective
Monday, January 23.

Tim brings to HO/Hyperlite a wealth of experience in sales, marketing
and the sporting goods industry. He most recently served as the
Executive Vice President of adidas America overseeing the entire US
sales function, including adidas' retail in line and outlet stores
across the country. Prior to his time at adidas, Tim spent more than
19
years with Nike Inc., serving in various roles including the Director
of
European Sales from 1994-1996. His last position at Nike was Vice
President of Global Sales.

Tim will be working with the HO/Hyperlite team to continue the
tradition
of innovative product development and marketing strategies that have
made the company the water sports industry leader. He will also lead
the development and implementation of new strategies for growth and
product extension to capitalize on the strength of the HO/Hyperlite
brands. HO Sports Company Inc.'s mission is to be the premier water
sports company in the world by designing, manufacturing, selling and
servicing innovative and reliable products, which are the brand of
choice from the novice to the most proficient water sports enthusiast.

"We are 'stoked' that Tim will be joining HO/Hyperlite," said Archer.
"His extensive amount of sales and marketing experience, along with his
leadership ability, will make him an excellent addition to the already
outstanding team of HO/Hyperlite associates. As a former collegiate
and
professional basketball player, Tim also knows how to compete!"

Tim received his undergraduate degree from Ohio University and also a
Master's degree in Sports Administration. He is married and has two
children.

with all the changes to HO going, more, "marketing" i wonder if they're product quality and reliability will suffer at all???

END QUOTE

Im really glad to see that he has worked for addidas and Nike, they are 2 company's that I really have alot of respect for. Rolling Eyes

It's really hard to say. Now it looks like it's possible that they're going to push wake sports into other markets. Just expanding in general, try to get it out to the general public.
I also think it's funny how they use the phrase "sporting goods". We may see generic sports stores (i.e., Champs, um, i don't know that many, Sports authority?) carrying product, which may or may not be good. It would be nice to see a general growth (granted, wakeboarding is one of the fastest growing water sports already) in the sport, but as we all know, we don't need anyone who is doing it to be cool.
He's the Chief Operating Officer, which means he basically runs everything on a day to day basis. This includes marketing, and I assume with his background in that, he'll want to try and at least give some input. (and by some input maybe change the staff, art directors, the general advertising/marketing team, etc.) How is a company represented? Through marketing, for example ads in magazines. Everything you see involving a company is marketing. Anything sold is done so through some sort of marketing and without a strategy, you can't get anywhere.
I think it will be interesting to see what will change and what will stay the same. he could totally change the whole style of the company, it just depends on how much of the staff underneath him that he changes. Last year Reef was bought by a larger company, VF Corp., which also owns Wrangler jeans, JanSport, Vans, and Lee, among others. But when the company was sold, none of the staff changed. They kept the core intact and Reef is still making great products that are oriented to the surf lifestyle.

If you don't want to read all of that, basically what I'm trying to say is that things could go either way. They can continue with the path they've started and remain a wakeboard company, or things can change completely and our tools of the trade may end up in stores next to footballs and tennis shoes. It all depends on what this guy thinks he can do and if he's ambitious enough to overhaul the company.

Great...Now Grubb can rock his Nautica jeans with a nice pair of Jordans and maybe we could get someone from Paul Mitchell to style his hair before he rides.

Maybe its a good business decision $$$ wise for Hyperlite, but it looks bad for the sport.

get over it grouch. grubb was never sponsored by nautica. And for the record, it's not like I want wakeskating to be some lumbering giant of an industry, but its growth is what allows your favorite company to succeed with 280.00 dollar wakeskates. For the bajillionth time, jason messer surely couldn't sell one for 300.00 in 1998, hence the birth of the $100.00 flat skate...

Actually, answer me this: what negative effects has wakeskating had that can be DIRECTLY attributed to a three year old commercial that ran on MTV?

oh man, what horrible news. the biggest company in watersports hired someone with with major qualifications and experience running multimillion dollar copanies. maybe they should just get some one who is cool, can ride his ass off and make bad business decisions. seen any 06 bi-levels? get over it. it's not like that guy is going to be out testing prototypes. it's just business and it wil probably make them even more money.

Damn, some of you clowns just don't get it. Companies are in business to MAKE A PROFIT. Otherwise, it is not a business! Sure, rider owned and operated companies are great, and I love to support them too.
For a large company like HO, you would be very, very lucky to get someone who rides AND has the necessary skills and experience to run a company as large as HO.
This is BUSINESS, not fantasy land.
