I'm heading down to Marathon this Saturaday for the annual 4th of July trip. Does anybody know any good places to skate in Marathon? I'm gonna be behind a ski the whole time so I'll be able to get in any depth of water.

cassette315, How much farther is islamorada? Have you ever heard of the sub-pits? I found out exactly where they are but they're more by Key West. That seems like a awesome place to ride but it would be a bit of a jetski ride.

.. Islamorada is before Marathon..... by about 40 miles.. I'd say take a ski out on the gulf side, near land and get out of the wind and your sure to find some nice spots...morning and dusk are always pretty nice, the winds kick up during the days sometimes... summer is hot as hell down there....

brandn has the right idea. get on the leeward side of any island and make sure it's deep enough, the keys gets tricky with shallow water. channels are nice and deep, but that's where sharks are. the wind calms down a little before dusk most days, but mornings aren't always a guarantee, and right before or after a storm is good.

yea that's when they feed, but during the summer those are usually the only times that are calm. and they're less likely to attack if you're in shallower water with a boat around.

well in the keys u dont have to worry about sharks becuase the only sharks ur likely to see are nerfs but under the bridges are were all the black tips and bullsharks are... the best sports to wakeskate in the keys are around smaller keys like rodregez or molasses

The very first place I ever skated was right next to one of the ends of the 7 mile bridge. It wast that bad because the wind was out of a good direction, but I was just wondering if anybody had any places that had flatter water more often. I'm not worried about sharks too much, they are most likely to get ya if your bleeding a little bit or like you said swimming at dusk. That always when I skate anyways Very Happy . (They say you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning, or at least here in FL)

Anybody ever heard of the sub- pits down around Key West?

lol i have an idea. go aska flyfishing guide when the clamest wind day is gonna be. then go in the flats where you tihnk you would find bonefish. when i go flyfishing its alwaysreally glassy., but thats early. on another note, last time i went flyfishing off of grassy key i was out a little ways in the atlantic and the tide was coming in. ther was this huge ridge of sand and some sort of oyster things. wel lwhen the tide got high enough it pushed the water over the sand and made like a 5inch water fall right in the atlantic. it was the coolest thing ive ever seen. then like 5 minutes later this group of sharks (not nurse) came cruising over the sand bar in about 6 inches of water.... it would have been really cool if i wasnt wading a few yards away.
