how much power does a winch need to have to be able to pull a rider...ive been looking at winches on ebay and i was wondering about how much you need for someone who weighs about 130-160 lbs? |

well they arent cheap to build but they are MUCH cheaper than buying one. engine cost me like $200 CAN. my dad has all the pulley and bearing stuff but those are expensive rope is rope just buy a nice handle for it all. square tubing isnt that bad. check the metal pile in a scrp yard

thye are much cheaper if you build a briggs/cetrifugal style. . . they are much more delicate too. . . . but buildinga really nice one cost just as much if not more that buying one would _________________ why dont you try playing hide and go Fvck yourself |

I don't post here much but...here are my thoughts on the Briggs engine/centrifugal clutch.
1. Compared to???
2. I've had one (winch) fall down a 25-30' high rock slope. It landed upside down, so I turned it over, and it started and ran no problem. It has lasted 2 years with nothing but general maintance. (add gas, oil change, lubing, etc..) _________________ .:Wake UP Films:.

1. compared to any other design
2. the desgin of a centrifugal clutch is invariably less reliable than most opposing designs due to the fact that it is designed to slip which menas it is designed to wear out _________________ why dont you try playing hide and go Fvck yourself |

buying a winch..... sounds sketchy what if a part breaks, then you have the problem of fixing somthing you did not build.... not fun. go out and build your own im doing it up in shop class this year. |

mario c., I joined over two years ago, I used to post alot when I first joined and there wasn't any BS. 15 Sep 2003
Kento. Hey this design works and there doesn't seem to be a problem getting parts if there is a need to. Also, have you used a centrifugal clutch winch? I haven't had any problems with it slipping. But, to each his own. _________________ .:Wake UP Films:.

mario c.,. . . . . Chris41, has been here a whil ebut hes not a daily poster. . .hes OG and can pull the noob card on alot of yall. . . . nuff said
WaKeSk8er209, ok so you havent heard not my problem. . Im certainly not going to blab
Chris41,I think ideally the uhhh idea as it were is to not need to get parts. . there isnt a winch around thats old enough it should need parts. . .that is to say were is engineered with longevity in mind. . . .but thats strictly my opinion. . . .oh and to answer your question. . yes. . and deep waters are herky jerky and its rather slow for a fellow over saaaaaaaayyyyyyy ummmmmmmmmmm 175. . . but like you said to each his own _________________ why dont you try playing hide and go Fvck yourself |

Chris41, actually. . . . no. . . . but JW whats the difference between a black box and a rewind as far as drivetrain is concerned b/c I see almost zero deviance from the Rewind formula in the BB. . btw a friend of mine had a BB for a while and he was impressed by how easy the parts were to get. . boy did he need alot of them
Edit: i forgot Rewind is 5hp and BB is like 6.5 as I recall but other than that any diffs? _________________ why dont you try playing hide and go Fvck yourself |

Kento, BB copied my prototype ReWind. They came out when I was winching the pond and basically took pics of it. Several weeks later their's was for sale.
I have a 5 hp on my proto, all other ReWinds are 8hp now.
The "drive train" is the same EXCEPT BB uses common go kart parts, and ReWind uses parts of a better quality. I'm not at liberty to explain, so take my word for what it's worth.
I have only heard (not saying they're true) bad things about BB. I believe that is why you can see so many for sale in wake web forum's classified sections. To explain their rumored "sales," they have the only public winch on the market. _________________ .:Wake UP Films:.

i would think centrifugal would be the way to go..the only thing that will wear out is the clutch lining...and that wont wear out for a while, as long as the clutch shoe sits in the clutch bell correctly. |
