Alright, I know that there has been tons of topics about this but I tried searching and it didn’t work, the search button never works for me. Anyways, I was wondering what the best type of paint to use is. And should I sand the old graphics off my skate before painting it? I am hoping to paint it a dark red. If someone remembers the name of that topic about building a skate it would be kick ass.

Has everyone had success with painting your skate? I mean how many people had the paint start to peel off cuz I would rather have a shiznackle color of paint than a good colored skate that peels.

pidy
if you paint it you need to lightly sand it and ruff it up so the paint will bond to it.. like 400 grit or higher. just pick a quality paint, i don't think oil base is necessary but someone chime in if i'm wrong.. paint it... sand it w/ 800 grit, paint it again... then 1000 grit, then poly, then 1000 grit, then poly, as many coats as you like. make sure you buy a quality brush and some paint thinner to clean it really well between coats.

Those sandpaper grits sound way to high for wood. Those are for like wetsanding a car, etc... I would start with a 120-220 for roughing it up, then multiple light coats of paint to avoid runs. Rub with steel wool in between each coat, clean very well and repeat until you are satisfied.

i used those high grit papers for the finish w/ the poly... so your right about that... but 400 should work w/ the paint

dude ive painted a ton of skates...

snad down a bit with 150 grit, get a desant spray paint(2 cans) and do a base coat and then a few more of the solid color.

then make a stencil of something and with a different color do a heavy mist spary over the stencil for a great look and then do a few coats of clear polyuathane.

it will be super solid for months
