I dont know what it is, but I have little or no interest in wakeboarding. I like the skateboard technical aspect of wakeskating.

Maybe down the road I will try wakeboarding. Im probably one of the few that is just skipping wakeboarding and going straight to skating.

I also feel alot of wakeboarders have no interest in wakeskating. They like the big air of wakebording and have no interest in wakeskating. I have spoke with some avid wakeboarder friends of mine that say they would like to try skating, but everytime they go out they end up just working on new wakeboarding tricks.

Do you guys feel the same way, or do you do both?

I'm just quitting wakeboarding in favor of wakeskating. Theres just too much BS with wakeboarding: filling sacks, Fixing bindings, Soap, etc. It just seems like a hassle on the water now.

spinwax,

dude i only wakeskate...and i have no skateboarding background either. the problem i face with that is i learn tricks alot slower than people who have both wakeboarding and skateboarding backgrounds. the cool thing about wakeboarders that transfer to wakeskating is they have more comfort doing wake2wake tricks. its taking me along time to get to the point where i can go wake2wake. i still havent landed it...BUT i fallen hard casing the top of the other wake many many times! haha.

You guys seem pretty hardcore into wakeskating.

I feel pretty good, I can kickflip my wakeskate in my living room. Very Happy Im sure its definitley different on the water. Confused

I must look like a total idiot; a old 32 yr old guy doing kickflips in his living room on his wakeskate.

I dont wakeboard but its pretty impressive for someone to do a flip and a 540 at the sametime. I only wakeskate because anybody can do a w2w on a wakeboard. You cut in to the wake, it takes no effort to keep the board with you. Now on a wakeskate if you just cut in and hit the wake the board goes everywhere. You have to use your feet / legs to keep the board under control. Watch the video of mrk kenny in my signiture its pretty good.

I used to strap... and it's seriously too damn easy lol. Once you got a few rolls dialed, which comes fast, you can learn the others pretty fast too. It's all about nuts and not getting hurt bad in the process ^^

I am way more impressed by a v-flip than a pete rose, a whirly or whatever... But for most people wakeskating is just not impressive at all, they'd rather watch a lame straper doing back rolls :/

I used to wakeboard until I blew my ACL and MCL during a bad landing. Any sport that involves bindings is really hard on your knees anyway, I could have done it just as well snowboarding. Mad

I don't wakeboard as much as I used to. I didn't ride at all last summer, and I went twice this year--once to jib and once to basically ollie all over the place. I said this once already, but it reminds me of snowboarding and I like the feeling.

However, there's really nothing like wakeskating. Scott byerly said this a few times (as did many others), but in wakeskating, you really have to work for your tricks (or most of them) and when you land what you've killed yourself for, it feels f-ing great.

When I first saw sfumato, I literally felt stupid for wakeboarding. Like, watching everything that just went down, and then watching the attention deficit trailer and seeing keith lyman ollie his ass all over the place...to me, it actually looked kind of funny. In my opinion, wakeskating takes more board control and almost anything worth doing on a board can be done on a wakeskate. And if it hasn't been done yet, it will.

Finally, the promise of unlimited progression is one of the hugest draws. There will always be something to learn, and there will always be a new way to use your board to get the job done (and by that, I mean using different parts of your board for a trick).

Agree. I grew up at a ski resort, snowboarded for a long time and my knees are toast.

I'm a little gun shy after an ACL replacement, I mostly wakeskate but still bust out the wakeboard once in a while. I just do 360's and 180's and grabs, still havent worked on getting my flips back. Probably because I spend most of my time wakeskating.

Exactly. I used to strap, but it just seems that the skate can go more places. There is a canal that is diverted off of the Sacramento River through Redding. You could get pulled behind a motorcyle and cut out quick when the cops show up. I want to skate that, but it looks spooky Embarassed because the current moves pretty good.

I wakeboarded for like three years before i really started wakeskating, like i had tried wakeskating and the first time i went wake to wake on a skate i was ruined i never wakeboarded again.... but i wouldnt be a very good wakeskater if i wasnt atleast a decent wakeboarder. now its like we go to the lake and we are doing more on our skates than anyone on their wakeboards... its kinda sad i can get more air on my skate than most wakeboarders... I think wakeboarding is a good buildig block for some of the basics of boarding on the water.

i used to wakeboard, i had the basics, w2w grabs and 180s, but i was never really into it, i felt unnatural on it... all strapped in and such.. BLAH, i would always bust out the skimboard, and do shuvs on it Smile behind the boat lol. i have a skateboard backround. so it felt awsome being on a skate. since then ive been addictted. i love wakeskating, and tricks came pretty quick, but now im getting to the harder tricks and its getting more difficult. Since last summer i havnt sliped my feet in a binding. And i really dont plan on it.
