this kid that won i think 2nd in alabama's wakeskate tour (i have no idea) went w/ us last friday, he's a senior in high school.. a really good skater and pretty damn good on the water.. so i'm going to get some help which will be nice.. maybe i can get some pics. last friday was a blast on the wakeskate.. i landed ON the board for a W2W but slid out, got a few good backside slides on the lip.. so far so good.. stoaked about going today to say the least.
also.. even though all of you are hard core wakeskaters.. you have to appreciate this.. i bought and old wood antique ski on ebay... the first concave version, they started the company in the 50's and still make wood skis today... they are starting at $1250 check out http://www.mahaskis.com/history.html it has not arrived yet.. but i'm collecting old skis now.. this is my 2nd one...

i dont' think it's a tour, i used that for lack of a better term.. they just have some contests.. and if you go to enough of them you get points etc...
better than nothing i'd suppose
frye- yes i'm going to ride it when i get it, but just for the hell of it.. otherwise it's going to make it's way onto a wall (i hope) |

That's cool warlock. I collect stuff too, but not skis. My family still has two pairs of wooden skis that they still use...but I suppose the "good" ones are used for slaloming and such.
Also, I think actually getting up on a slalom ski is harder than wakeskating. I couldn't do it...in fact, I only waterskied the year before I bought a wakeboard (because I didn't have one and I just wanted to be on the water) and I couldn't slalom then. I could lift my foot up and ride, but once I dropped that ski I was done.
And you can get some gnarly injuries from skiing. When I was rehabing my knee, there was a boy in there that completely tore his knee apart from slalom skiing. No matter who you are or what you do, water can bite you in the ass. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

e-snow - i bet there are folks out there that have as much fun as we do on two wooden skis, they look forward to going down and getting to ride.. i respect that... i don't care what they are doing... they're on the water, having the time of THEIR lives... more power two them.. (just stay outta my slew ) j/k i'll share these days... i've mellowed a bit over the years.
nick.. i accept your opinion on slaloming.. this isn't a slalom forum.. i'm just leaving it at.. i enjoy it, and i'm going to continue w/ it.. i do however look forward to wakeskating this afternoon more.. some days are different.
injuries come from it all... they had dr. jack horton 75 years old on the today show tricking (toe tricking too), jumping and slalom... that folks is inspiration.. he's competing again in the nationals this year....
take the time to understand.. what you all do was spawned from what these people did... there is a certain amount of respect that this commands..
snow... how'd you blow out your knee?? |

Getting up on slalom is hard. And being pulled that fast kills your hands when compared to wakeboarding, you really notice the extra speed. I've done it once, once I got up carveing back and forth was kinda fun, got a little old though.
As for skis, my dad has a wodden connely hook in the basement. I think thats what it is called. I guess the binding insert ripped out so now it just chills in a bag in the basement. |

I wasn't putting you down for slaloming. Do what makes ya grin. I just fail at it and I have had very negative experiences with skiers. _________________ √ |

greg, if you can take a picture of that ski.. i'd like to see it... you think he'd sell it?
nick.. thanks.. i didn't mean to come of anyway other than positive.. i understand the "conflict" that a lot of wakeboard-wakeskate have w/ skiers.. i was a very VERY anti anything other than slalom.. it was all i did and all i ever wanted to do.... i would have definatley been a negative experience but i guess well i have no idea what all did what.. i got married, have a kid.. and i'm going to do as many things as i can and do them well, or keep trying to get better... so you guys keep encouraging folks to get behind a boat and hold on
someone once told me "there's a lot to be said for the effort" that goes a long way in my book...

| warlock, I have an old maja in my parents garage. it was given to me by my grandmother. it was custum built for her. I wish I had pics of it. The last time I rode it was in like 90 or so, it's pretty small and I outgrew it pretty quick. once I have a bigger garage, I'm going to have it sent down here to hang on the wall with my other old water stuff |

russian..
post a pic of it if you get a chance.. i'd love to see it... the fact that it was your grandmothers is the coolest part.. custom built!!!! i've notice a few of the customs have more "exotic" wood built in them.. i might contact them and see about having this one refurbished... depending on the cost. double highwraps for sure... this ski i lucked out, it's for my height and weight, i'm really curious of how it will ride. |
