making alcohol in my dorm room

for starters i really like apple juice, so my mom sends me back to school with a gallon of it whenever i see her. She gave me one when i came back from spring break and i drank a little bit of it, then left the gallon sitting out on the floor for like 2 weeks. last night me and my roommate were wondering why the bottle looked like it was gonna blow up and the apple juice became murky. so we opened it up, which basicalyl exploded with c02 gas coming out (it became carbonated). it smelled like malt liqour or something. we eventually decided to try it, becuase we figured there was alcohol in it. tasted surprsingly good, like a carbonated wine beverage. got pretty drunk off it, and am making another batch, lol. if anyone knows how this happened without adding yeast let me know, cuz i didnt do anything to it.

its fermentation, orange juice does it when it gets old too. but i have never tried to get drunk offa it but ill probb try the apple juice tho. did u serve it cold?

the company was Musslemans, im trying it again with a gallon of White House premium apple juice, lol. i think basically just make sure its 100% juice, and no perservatives, i think. i served it room temperature, im not sure if serving it cold would get rid of the carbonation or not. a friend of mine actually said it tasted like a wheat beer he had in germany.

seven11dmd, it worked without the yeast because the yeast is just a catalyst which just speeds up the chemcial change.

OMG! this is soooo freakin creepy. The EXACT same thing happened to me about two days ago. I made some OJ from a can of frozen stuff about two weeks ago...and put it in a recycled plastic juice bottle with an air-tight lid. I woke up in the middle of the night to get a drink from the bottle...and when i was done with it i accidently left it underneath my bed. I dicovered it two days ago...and the bottle was soo expanded that i thought it was gunna burst. And when i opened it....it foamed up like a shaken pop. It tasted like someone had put alcohol in it, and it was fizzy. My girlfriend wouldnt let me drink it though because she thought it might make me sick. So i put the lid back on...when i woke up the next day...the bottle had fully expanded again. At that point, i poured it down the sink. But how creepy is that? It happened at almost the same time to me as it happened to you...weird. My GF can verify the whole story. I never thought that it would actually be alcoholic....i thought it just tasted like that.

Matt_French, lol thats pretty weird, i dunno if id want to try alcoholic OJ, but the apple juice actually tasted good. yah i understand what u mean about those gases building up so fast! u let em out and then they are full in like a second. haha.

you can make vodka and stuff pretty easily, we made wine, vodka, and beer at school like 2 months ago. it only takes about 2 weeks to make it all, i'm not sure how it tasted though, some kids stole it before I could haha
