well my grandpa left me 2 boats. one of them is like a bass fishing boat, and the other is a jon boat. the fishing boat has a 35hp Evinrude that was supposedly worked on in 2005, but i doubt that it will run without a nice tune-up.

anyway so my plan is to take the 35hp motor off of the red fiberglass boat and put it on the jon boat because i believe that the jon boat will be much easier to fix up and i think it will overall be nicer in the end and it would turn out cheaper.

Red boat with the 35hp Evinrude

Lemons???

sorry about the videos and me turning the camera, i didnt think about it not changing to the right position automatically.....

so do you guys know of any problems i might run in to? i have never done any sort of motor repair or boat repair but i really want to build a boat that i can shredd whenever the hell i want! i know that if i am able to put the 35hp motor on the jon boat, i am also going to have to install a steering wheel since it is not a hand motor. also i am wondering if i am going to run in to any problems with the motor since it is a long shaft because of the boat it was previously on, and i know that the jon boat is not near as deep. also all of the wood on the inside of the jon boat needs to be replace but i figure that wont be such a big deal. also i am going to need some sort of pylon or tower to pull someone but i am wonder which to do first just so i can start shredding asap.

bring on the advice cause i want this thing running soon! Wink

I'd just use the red one, hooking up steering and everything on the other boat would be a huge hassle. Just get the motor fixed up and ride

ya but its probably gonna look like sh*t forever and i dont know how well the 35 will pull me skiing on that heavier boat. i mean i guess to test the engine i could at least get it running and try it out on the red boat but either way, its going to be a lot of work to get something shreddable!

Bro you would be surprised.henrification, is right. clean up the boat, strip some weight off it, and get that motor running. and ride! It's a 2 stroke, so you should be fine getting it running. If you want it on your jonny boat you should look into a tiller handle. Just my opinion. Or you can put in some kind of side console.

You really have a diamond the rough. Clean it up and make it your own.

If your not gonna fix up the bass boat you could sell it and use some of the money from selling it to buy a decent tiller handle engine. And also get the tower built with some of the money.

the towers gonna cost you the most money. Floors are easy to pull out and replace. I put a side console on mine but thats because my brother works at a marina and everything was free and easily excessible.

its easy to put a tiller handle on it, def mount it on the jonny and get a cheap universal tower. u could be riding for less than a 1000 bucks prolly. as long as nothing is to wrong with the motor.

1.) A tower is completely unnecessary. It'll pull fine without one.
2.) That Evinrude probably needs work.
3.) You need to know the dimensions of your boat before you start thinking about a tower and going with a more powerful motor. It's completely possible to have a motor that's too powerful for your boat, and if your boat is too narrow, you're not going to be able to use a "stock" tower, it'll have to be custom fabricated.
4.) Your issue with a long shaft depends on how long the shaft really is. If it's under 20", you should be fine with that boat. Anything more though, and you're gonna experience a lot of drag, and that could be detrimental to top end and torque (pulling people up).
5.) 2 strokes are much easier to work on/fix than 4 strokes, so don't be afraid to tinker with it. There is plenty of information online to help you get started with working on your motor. Other than a complete rebuild, you can fix basically anything that's wrong with your motor with some grease, a monkey wrench, and a socket set.

Bottom line: It'd be much less trouble to just leave that Evinrude on that bass boat and try to ride it. If it absolutely doesn't work, then put it on the bateau. That being said, that's a lot of motor for what looks like a really little boat. Putting a side console on a boat that small is more trouble than it's worth.

ya samcollett i think yer right. i really just want to ride so i shouldnt care what kind of shape it's in cosmetically. i feel like i will have plenty of time this off season to work on that kind of stuff.

and no Sagittorious i didnt :/
i was going to but they are cleaning out my grandpas house so who knows where a tape measure is. i think on friday i'm going to go down there with a buddy and see what we can do. if anything i need to clean out the leaves and snakes and try to see what needs to be fixed. ill make sure to take a tape measure and my tools down there so i'll post that later this week. luckily there is a boat ramp not even 2 miles from the boat in case we ever get it close to running.

If your super concerned with the cosmetic condition of the boat with the 35 evinrude on it, it is easliy cleanable.

After you wash and degrease it you can get some 2000 grit sand paper and wet sand all the gunk and water stains off the gel coat and then go back with a wool padded buffer and some compound and buff it out. It will make the gelcoat look like new.
