Id like to have a thread of pure facts , no opinions please.

Board:
Date purchased:
Death(never to be shredded again):
Riding content (rails, boat, ski, winching gaps):
Where/How it broke:
Also Pics:

Trying to gather a bit of info without any real point, just so we can all reference the different boards and their quality. Also to see if there are some common breaks and stress points. Obviously the boards that don't get listed will remain the better quality. But again Im looking to see what you were riding , how you were riding it, and how it broke.

Mostly looking for info on your wood boards.

Board: Obscura Hampson 40.5
Date Purchased: March 2010
Death: End of May 2010
Riding Content: Rails, Winching Ski, Cable
Where/How it broke: The first Day Winching with it at the Richardson Tx Step Up Gap a Nice Chunk was taken out, after that it shed its bottom/base ply one rail hit at a time, after 2 months the bottom came completely off and it was still ride able. One day after temporarily losing my wallet with $400 (found it later thank goodness) in a fit of rage I slammed the board on the concrete splinter a corner of the sidewall. After that, every time i rode it large pieces of would fall off til it got to the point where it wouldn't track right anymore and would catch an edge and sink underwater.

I really liked the shape, weight, and pop of it, just wasnt too stoked on the life of it. Seems pretty common for a liquid force from what i have seen tho

Board: ERA Custom HeavyWeight

Date purchased: June '09

Death(never to be shredded again): June '11

Price: $150.00

Riding content (rails, boat, ski, winching gaps): Everywhere

Where/How it broke: Concave broke off on a failed front big attempt by Cheapskate

Just want to say that this was by far the best board that I have ridden to date. IMO... to have a $150 board last for two years is the shiz. Too bad they are out of business.

However... I have been shredding my old TNT since the ERA broke, and I have been really digging it.

I've been through over 100 wood boards, they all break in different places. They last from one ollie to a few months. Over the past 2 years I have mostly ridden New manufactured boards, and the most common place for them to break is where the top deck and the bottom deck have a gap between the two and are filled in. From what I see the glue line is what makes it weak right there, less glue lines=less places to come apart. The sucky part is I am addicted to that concave style, the "step up" concave just doesn't do it for me.

Jason at Sprocket America has been trying to help me make a board that will last. Over the past few months we have tried a bunch of different things, and since he has let me have a part in it I have been able to fix what didn't work for me instead of just riding what I was given. I'm not trying to turn this in to a sprocket ad, but I have learned a lot R&Ding the board (with jason's and chris' help) and it's almost done. I figured it fits in this thread because I have learned about why boards ride the way they do and why they break the way they do. It took us more than a couple of tries, but I am really happy with the board now and I've been on it for a few months.

I gotta go with frye on this one, i have broken a bunch of wood decks. A few NEWs split in the same spot he mentioned for me, and i had a few oaks break in different spots also. My oaks lasted me probably 5-8 months or so depending on the board and how much riding i was doing. My oak i am currently riding i started riding it maybe 2-3 montsh ago, and have been doing a ton of winching, ski, and rails with it, and it is still going strong. Smash

question: with the splitting problem on the NEW decks, same problem i'm havin with several decks, has anyone tried putting screws in the deck to hold it together? if so, did it just create another weak spot in the deck where it later snapped? thats what im scared of doing on my newest deck but need something holding it together...

Liquid Force Mod
March 2009
Death...Never
Ride pwc, cable, winch

This boards a tank, though it kind of rides like a tank too.

Got the new mod this year and it seems to be holding up just as well and it rides alot better...

New tried using different things like staples, if you look hard enough there might be some on your board. In my experience screwing it together doesn't work because the board is so thin there the screw isn't really long enough to get any sort of bite to make a difference.

board: integrity simplex 38.65 2009
first ride: march 2010
out of work: august 2011

ride cable almost every day from april - october. hitting obstacles constantly. board is still in very good shape, edges are perfect, no damage to the board at all, just the bottom side started to get really thin and you can see the core material on some points. but its still sealed and overall in perfect riding condition. it would've easily made it through this season.
