Is this any good? I used a seadoo jetski last year. I cant really afford something like a mastercraft, tige, malibu, etc. cuz they cost a lot plus they are gas guzzlers lol. would a mariah sx19 be any good for wakeskating? |

How much are you looking to spend?
Those are Inboard/outboards right?
Probably be better off getting a used wakeboat or a jetski or a build a nice john boat setup.
My only experience with I/O boats is that they dont keep speed very well but the wake on some is pretty dope.
Never ridden behind that model though. _________________ http://www.wakeskateclips.com/ |

Well like I said. I can't really afford a true wakeboarding boat. I'm still in debt after school lol. My budget is $20000 to $25000 max. I know there aren't many good boats for that price range. I wanna get something used. The Mariah I posted about is on sale at a dealership near my house for $16500. It's a 2007 model and the said he could install a wakeboard tower. Does anyone else have an opinion of this boat? |

Only wakeskating, tubing, and maybe some fishing. |

I paid $1,200 for my 16' Mirrocraft with a 70hp johnson. I put in a FlyHigh pylon and its a dream to skate behind! If the lake is blown out I fish with it... You can also tube with it.
Fishing from an I/O sucks because the gunnel is so high. $20,000 is a ton of money! You can get a new Bass Tracker and upgrade the motor for under $12,000...and still have a great skate wake.
I would not buy and I/O unless all you did was tube and drink. You can skate behind them but i'd rather skate behind a pontoon (seaman ) than any I/O.
Also, I/O's have a deep draft and suck gas vs. an aluminum fish and ski.
I hope this helps _________________ Obscura Wakeskates! |

Are there other reasons to not get an I/O boat for wakeskating? |

Also, is 135hp enough to pull someone with maybe 5 other people in the boat. ive heard mixed opinions about this. whats everyone's take on this? |

One of the best things about skating is you can do it behind anything.... So an I/O will work...I don't think it is your best option especially give the amount of money you have to spend. But if you like it, buy it and skate your heart out!
To answer you HP question: It all depends on how deep your boat rides really...Ive been behind I/O's with less hp and been fine but also some with more hp and it never got on plane. If I was you I'd ride behind it before you buy it. If the dealer doesn't let you I'd look somewhere else.
5 people plus a rider is a bunch of weight and a 135hp seems underpowered _________________ Obscura Wakeskates! |

So what would you recommend, HP wise. like 180ish maybe. im just throwing numbers out there. Also, the 5 people thing is when my whole family is inside. If its just me skating and 2-3 others inside, will a boat like this be enough? |

It's tough to say man. The more power the better really, I mean 5+ people (say 600-700lbs) with beer and ice and snacks (around 60lbs) for a day on the water and gear like boards and wet vests that's a lot of weight to be moving in a 19' boat with a deep hull.
Reading your early posts about gas guzzling i would think it would be close to the same as a inboard for the amount of power you will need. I know you can pick up used inboards for 20k. I would go that route if you have the $.
I jumped on the lemonscraft/tinny bandwagon and never looked back....
Gas and overall cost of the boat is cheaper and the cost of repairs (when needed) tend to be cheaper in outboards then the I/O or inboards. And insurance. Plus all the money you have left over you can buy new gear and beer! _________________ Obscura Wakeskates! |
