winch wont start... it worked fine a week ago when i started it up. but now all of the sudden it wont start, it will turn on for a second then shut right off. the spark plug is good, replaced the gas, and the carb looks clean to me. I bought some engine starter fluid and i spray a little into the carb to get it started then it dies right away again, but if i keep spraying the starter in right before it dies i can keep it running but thats it... any help? I know there are some winching experts on here! |

after it dies pull the spark plug, is it wet?

if so its possible its being flooded out for some reason... like the choke could be left on, or the floats in the carb are stuck in full throttle position.

while you have the spark plug out, plug it back into the ignition wire and ground the spark plug to the motor (just anywhere on the block). and give it a pull check for a consistent spark at the end of the spark plug.

if none of that works take note of the spark plug color... if its white it means its not getting enough fuel... if its black;too much

you want it to be a nice brown...

hope that helps some |

				| Have you checked to make sure the fuel is turned on? and if there is fuel getting to the carb? If it will run on starter fluid it is fuel related problem! |

Cartel, nah thats one of the first things i checked and it was fine. thanks though.

rfmcrx, yess i checked and i even unconnected the fuel line to see if gas flows through it and it does. and while i unconnected the fuel line i even drained the gas and replaced it with new gas. still nothing |

				| a jet is clooged or the float is sticking in the fuel bowl! Pull the bowl off the bottom of the carb and make sure its not sticking! |

make sure the throttle isn't wide open, the problems you're having are identical to what I was dealing with last week and the throttle was the issue _________________ ☆PHOENIX WINCH☆

				| Is it a cheapy engine? Sometimes when an engine looses compression it won't continue to run... |

ahhh so i checked the float today and it was fine. but when i was tightening the bolts bacck on i tightened one too much and it snapped the rod thing that was holding the gold piece at the bottom covering the float so i cant get the cover back on. i feel that it could be a big problem...

:supermanotorious, (

i checked the throttle too but that wasnt it:/ i have no idea what it is.

daffo, its not the wires cause i checked all that and itll start for a minute but cant keep it running. thanks though

JB_CANSKATE, yea it is a cheaper engine. but i mean ive honestly used it maybe 10 times because my spool has been broken for so long and all my other friends had winches. but what do you mean it loses compression? |

				| You need to make sure that fuel is getting from your tank to the carb, try taking the fuel bowl off the carb and pullin the float down! does fuel come out? you may have a clog in the fuel line? also pull the plug and get a compression tester and check your compression! If you have spark and compression then its fuel related problem. also what does the air filter look like? is it clogged or dirty? will the winch run with the air filter off? |

				| rfmcrx, yes i tried doing that yesterday and everything worked fine. and the fuel line is fine too, i took it off to check that as well. and i need to check the compression i guess. an the filter is extremellly clean, and dosent run with it off anyway. do you have any idea how i could fix my fuel bowl? i took it off last night and when i was putting it back on i tightened it too much and snapped the rod that you screw the bolt into to keep the bowl on. any ideas how to fix? or if i can get another piece? |

spencerk, you can get all kinds of replacement parts at http://www.2lcstore.com/home.html

if you have a honda knock off they usually work fine too. i'm sure you can get a new float bowl from them. look in the carb section.. _________________
