Hey everyone, wake skating is very new to me. I have two yamaha waverunners and wanted to try something new behind them and read wake skating is good for waverunners. So i bought a cheap bord to learn on. It is a 44" or 45" big i forget. But i am 6'2" and 215lbs. So the last few nights i have been working on it over and over again. Hardly ever getting close. i give the singal to go and it always seems to just drown me! LOL i keep reading on here to let the "boat do the work". Can't quite understand this concept yet lol. And tips i should know ? Would it be easier to get up with or without fins? Thanks everyone!

maybe try sitting on a dock with the your feet on the board on the water and just lean back and point your nose forward a bit and try and ride it out.

fins make no difference getting up

for a deep water start.........u should try and keep your toeside edge above the water sit back like your in a recliner....knees and elbows bent......when you give the go ahead, shift your nose out of the water and drop your tail......and keep your weight on your heels.....most of it on your backfoot, don't try and pull yourself up.......let the ski do the work and try and ride the board up on top the water so that it hydroplanes up up and way u go...........go get em Smash

Exact same thing happened to me so let me see if I can help. First off there's a good chance whoevers pulling you needs to hit the accelerator just a little more. If they accelerate to slowly the board doesn't pop out and plane and instead gets drug under. I get pulled out on a yamaha as well

Here's what they mean by let the ski do the work. When your sitting in the water with the board up I'd put it so your toes are right at the edge of the board. Duck them slightly about shoulder width. I put my feet right before where the concave starts.

IMPORTANT! Tuck your knees between your elbows. Keeps them kinda braced.

At this point your butt is probably about 4-6 inches from your heels/ankles naturally. As soon as the ski takes off pressure is put on the board and it forces your heels to your butt. Let it! Right after this happens the water should clear and you should be up. Just hang on til that water clears if the water aint clearing have em pull you out quicker.

Apply a little pressure on that back foot to straghten the board and just stay in that little cannonball until your comfortable enough to stand up.

The way shown in that YouTube video looks tough to me. It's not easier to have your feet positioned?

One question. when you say put it so your toes are right at the edge of the board. this is a dumb question but on the bottoms edge or at the top?

your toe edge will the one located where your feet end, the toes. the other edge is your heelside edge.

Like this picture. Your toes on the edge of the board that's facing the Jet Ski. That's not super crucial though. More crucial is that you lock your knees inside your elbows, and just let your butt sink towards your heels.

dont want to confuse you but id have to say im the opposite..i find it easier if my heels are at the bottom with a gap on my toeside edge.
every other piece of advice given is money though

Like I said the focus shouldn't be on the foot placement. Focus on not fighting the ski and keeping those knees tucked. That's more important.

hey guys good news! this weekend me and my girlfriend both got up many times! we can almost always get the board out on the water planing but the hardest part now is actually standing up! we did stand up a few times and it was awesome! Now should we be trying to stand up when the board is still sideways or once it is straightened out? thanks everyone for your help!

No straighten it out first...

That's good now it's all a balance thing. I took me a couple sessions to get the balance down. Any little wake would cause me to fall. There's nothing left to be discussed...it's just practice now.

ALright thank you! Another question, This board i bought is just untill i learn a little more, but was wondering are there any good boards out there for 100 or so. New or used it really does not matter. This One i bought for now does have the foam top. While i like not having to wear shoes do i really need one of the grip tops ones to ever pull off any tricks? Also at 6'2" and 215 would a 43' board be about right? thanks! Sorry for all the questions!

your size doesnt nessesarily mean you need a huge board you could probably get a smaller board around 40 or so once you get your technique down getting up
and i disagree alittle bit i feel that if you stand up in one fluent motion with everything youll have an easier time getting up because itll come as more of a natural pop up then trying to balance and stand up
