I'm sorry to hear that and I know what it's like. The splits are pretty much my biggest fear of wakeskating because when it's bad, it's BAD. I hope things turn out for you.

Mate, that sucks. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
You will have to declare yourself "the designated boat driver / winch operator / photographer" for the rest your down time. At least then your still part of the action.

the splits suck so bad... you'll be back on the board in no time. doctors told cheapskate he tore all of his ligaments... so cheapskate just started riding two weeks later, and kept riding until the pain finally went away. get well soon.

Brings me back to when i did it on a w2w and stretched my MCL, luckily it didn't tear, and luckily it was during the winter season so i didnt miss much and was back out by summer. Hopefully you can make a swift recovery and be out by the end of summer! Good luck man!

skimboarder, June 23, 2008, I landed my first switch whirlybird (yeah i strap, wanna fight about it ). In celebration, i called for a double up. When I hit it, I went for the 7, got to about 6, and landed with my knee straight/locked; I tore my ACL and meniscus. I went from the literal peak of my wake career to the lowest point of my life...until that point.
The next one came 6 months later when i blew it all out again. I became so depressed that i couldn't live normal life. I had to quit school, i worked for 3 hours about 3-4 days a week, depending on how i felt and that was it. I was off the water for a total of 1 year and 6 months.
I tell you this because i feel for you man.....so so so much. Do whatever you can stay up on yourself. The thing G.K.D. said about being the designated everything was really what got me through it. You have a long road ahead of you, but keep your head up, keep your wakeskate where you can look at it every day (motivation), and keep going man. Get that shi t fixed and get on the road to recovery. Hit rehab hard, but dont hit the board too soon..trust me. You'll never forgive yourself. Good luck bro, I'll say a prayer for you.

You might be able to ride with a brace later this summer and get the surgery in the fall, it will be up to your doc though.

If you have insurance they will tell you that you need surgery, rehab, bla bla bla, but if you dont they will tell you just to take it easy, 800mg advil, vicadin, and RICE ( rest, ice, compression , elevation)... I have done the splits 4 times since starting wakeskating... the first one is always the worst. Dont think that you are done for the season yet man. As long as you didnt tear your acl you will start feeling better in a couple days to a couple weeks.. Good luck with the mri.

Get surgery, ASAP. And use a Cadaver if you have the choice. Self-graft=more healing time.

i want to thank everyone for their support. it really means alot guys. i'm trying my best to keep my head up as i'm going through this. what makes it so hard is wakeskating(and other boardsports) has been a main part of my life for so long it's going to be hard to go this whole summer without it. i had my girlfriend bring my integ in and hang it on my wall so i can still look at and know hopefully in the future i'll be back on it.
i'll definitely be driving my friends around and out their taking pictures as soon as possible. that will probably be the only thing keeping me sane. i'm going to try to be around wakeskating as much as possible while i'm out to keep me from getting down. right now i'm pretty much confined to my chair playing xbox and guitar. very anxious to see what the MRI says and then what to do from there. i would love to avoid surgery if at all possible and possibly wear a brace.
Does anyone know much about just an MCL injury? recovery time/chance of riding again this summer? I'm praying to god that just my MCL is injured. I'll keep you guys updated after my MRI and I know i'll be on this website about everyday through this to help pass the time.
i still <3 wakeskating..

He speaks truth. People that do surgery and don't do the rehab just eff themselves over even more.
Surgery is really the best way man, it'll suck for sure but your knee will be so much more stable/strong in the future whereas letting it be could lead to future complications. If it's just your MCL, then not having surgery could be plausible (depending on how bad it is) but i wouldn't even question it if the ACL is torn also.
