What would you guys lean towards, buying a winch for around 700-1000 that was built by a person (not a big company like ridiculous) or building my own?

I feel like I would save some money by building my own, but it seems like it might be worth the extra cash to get one already finished.

probably more rewarding to build, but if you can't weld its tough. you could just buy a frame like a pull dozer and add the parts on yourself. on a side note here, has anyone used a mechanical disc brake?

I can't really weld so I'd have to buy a frame.

No mojo, i thought about it! if you have a drum brake already won't be much different to that i expect. Not much weight in stopped a spool on a winch, so the extra braking power of a disc probably won't make much difference.

ZackFL(BRE), You tryin' to sell mah winch?!?!?

dpc1192, The one he's actually talking about though looks sick! It looks really well cared for too. I'd say pick that up if it runs strong and you'll be a happy camper.

dpc1192, you should just buy all the parts and assemble them yourself. It wouldn't take much since you live in FL.
