Im kind of new at wakeskating, ive ridden for a summer now. I have a Gator pro model and byerly 3 shoes. Im getting my friends into wakeskating and some have offered to buy my board. I was looking at getting a Liquid force impule hampson 40.5. Does anyone know if this would be a good idea? Or would i be better off with the gator? Also as far as shoes, i was looking at the zoom cush wake and the braata. Is there a difference between the normal cush and cush wake? and do the braatas drain as well as the cush wakes? or should i keep the byerly 3's? |

Shoes seem to not last long in the water. I'd say keep yours until they fall apart then get some new ones. _________________ My life's a constant work in progress and I wouldn't have it any other way! |

I would not recommend an impulse especially if you plan to hit any rails. |

is it really that bad? It seemed pretty alright when i was looking at it. Where i work, we only carry liquid force and hyperlite skates so i can get an alright discount. I could get the impulse for around 140-150ish. i would love to get a remote or an SST or something, but they are just so expensive and i just bought a brand new wakeboard so im low on money. Should i just keep the gator pro then? Or any other suggestions for a sub 200$ skate? |

pangalicious, if you like a 12 pound water logged board that will fall apart then get it
you could prob find an oak or NEW for under 150 pretty easily. _________________ vesselwake.com |

PoopSkater, NEW doesn't make publicly sold boards anymore and Oaks 2010 models still arn't out yet....sigh...
I wish in wakeskating you actually had a choice to not support the corporate companies!! _________________ www.jimizwakenskate.com

you do have a choice, you just have to have the money. The thing is, the impulse is one of the most affordably priced wood concaves on the market. I've just heard mixed reactions from other riders about the sealant.
Honestly, if you can get a hampson at a good price, I'd go for it, but I'd probably re-seal it. Other than that, people have said good things about the new concave...it sounds like a good ride otherwise. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Are the NEW wakeskates any good? I found an 08 SST 40.5 for 160. I know the newer ssts are pretty popular, but what about the 08s? It has the wooden bottom deck |

pangalicious, the 08's had a lot of problems. I'd stay away...just my opinion. _________________ When it rains, it pours. |

So realisticly should I just keep the gator pro model? Its in pretty good condition. Some of the fiberglass on the bottom is coming off, but nothing super bad. Is it a good board or can I get something better for not too much money? |

You can always buy the Impulse or any wood deck, then go to Home Depot or Lowes and get some outdoor urethane. Put a few coats on the board (I'd suggest 3) and your board will be sealed tighter than Fort Knox.
I do this with all my wood boards, no matter what brand it is. It's worked great for me and it's cheap insurance. I haven't had a water logged board yet. I'm in the Chicago area so my riding season tends to be pretty short though. |

Do you just coat the bottom and sides or do you take off the tape and do the top and bottom? _________________ My life's a constant work in progress and I wouldn't have it any other way! |

I've never worried about under the grip or foam <--depending what board I'm doing. So I just do the bottom and sides. When I refinish a board, I always take it down all the way on both sides then re-grip. If I was worried about under the grip (like with some known problem boards) I'd take the grip off and do under it too.
Like with my new boards I got over the winter (I just put the urethane on the bottom and sides before I ever even rode the boards. Just cheap insurance is how I see it. |

For the price you pay for an Impulse, I wouldn't bother re-sealing it from new. By the time you buy the sealer and new grip tape, it's hardly worth it. Just ride the thing for a season and enjoy. Then if you want to keep it, re-seal it through the off season.
as for the shoes, the cush wakes have closed cell foam and mesh side so they don't hold water. |
