Anyone own or have ridden behind a 17ft 1988 Sea Ray before? I have a bout 5-6grand total to spend and I found a restored one for $5500. Too short? Too big? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

In/Out version right?

If so the two I have ridden behind have trouble holding a consistent speed

For that kind of money you could build a sick little john boat

My plan was to find a john boat with a 40hp and custom tower until I decided to sell my bikes. Now I have enough to buy a decent boat. That way I could ride doubles, do re entries and some w2w shiz. Can you elaborate of the speed problem please?

Anyone interested in a 2001 Buell X1 Lightning with tune, intake, exhaust, corbin seat or a 93 Honda 750 Nighthawk??? Laughing

Lollar, I guess it is a complete outboard. He put a 100hp Mercruiser in it last year.

So I got two completely different reviews of them so far. lol I hope its legit. I wanna do w2w kickies like whaaaaat!

Here is another picture he emailed me. It's before he put the engine on there. He is pretty old and slow to move around. I think he had a rough tour in Nam.

i had a 73 19' sea ray that kicked out an OK wake - but it was kind of split too far apart - i could never make it all the way across unless i was strapped in. it was a maintenance NIGHTMARE, but i only spent 1100 on it when i bought it. my view is that unless your buying a true inboard with a v-drive or a sterndrive, don't buy anything with a motor in the boat unless you are a decent mechanic. it sounds like you are and sea ray engines are no different than a truck engine with some marinized parts - so maybe you should do it.

It actually has an outboard motor. He took pictures when it was not installed. Would the 17 have a wake wider apart or close then your 19?

I have damn near that exact same boat. It's a wakeskate machine and you will love her.Perfectly mellow transition for re entry tricks, and a crisp lip, plus a giant-ski-like i/o. You really can't beat it.

ShutItDown, that price honestly seems kind of high for how old the boat is. For around that price you could find a nice older ski boat (inboard) which I have a feeling you would like a lot more but whatever floats your boat.. Laughing

ShutItDown, Mine's an i/o. Offer low and see if he'll budge on the price. That way you can meet somewhere in the middle.

Those pictures were before he fixed it up. He has $7500 invested in it. I'll see what he can do. I think I'm going to see if I can ride on it first.

ShutItDown, it seems a little over priced for a boat that is 22 years old Confused

I guess youre right. There is a 2000 flat bottom jon boat thats console steered and is running a 40hp 4 stroke motor for $3500 that I could consider. I just want to comfortably seat 3 and one being towed.

ShutItDown, if it was me... i would use that 5-6k as a down payment on a new 16 or 18 ft aluminum center console, then pay it off and your credit will boost as much as your wakeskating will Wink
