I'm looked for some advice from' people that have done this already.

I have a winch that doesnt seem to get up to full speed and seems to struggle quite a bit pulling people from a deep water start.

I have a torq-a-verter with 12 tooth #35 chain and i've tried different gearings. (60t, 48t, 36t) My tav came with the spring in the #1 hole setting. I'm using a 6.5 hp champion engine. I have an 8 inch diameter on my spool (yes, thats what she said)

My biggest questions is what setting do i set the spring at? What setting is everyone else using? I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks.

Is there anyways to fix it without buying new parts? Would changing one of the 3 settings matter.. its on the first setting right now?

I think most people use a 72t sprocket with that set up.

You should be aiming for a 6:1 ratio.

i changed mine around and it doesn't seem to make any difference. but, i changed it to get my heavy friends up, i've never had a problem deep water starting, so it may just be transparent to me.

I have a 7hp and Im running 68t. Seems fine, although the heaviest rider I've deep started would have been just under 200lbs.

BryceBell, are you sure that your engine is running properly? I went through 3 of those champion engine in 2 years before upgrading to a 8 hp briggs. They just lose compression over time.

BryceBell, yes they usually work amazing at first but will always fail. Is it a costco special? If it is and your costco still carries them tell him to take it back a swap it. I ended up used each engine for just under a year and then bringing it back, and swapping it for a new one. I got 3 new engines over 3 years and in the end returned the last engine for a full refund and bought a briggs. Laughing

BryceBell, I'm going to have to agree with JB_CANSKATE here. Previously before purchasing my 10 hp Briggs, I had one of those champion engines. When I sold it to a local mini tune, they informed me that my engine was running off 1 piston. I was surprised because I hadn't noticed too much of a difference in performance, I did notice it was struggling to pull me up tho.

miller, gonna get back on the skate this week! sooo stoaked. ditch skating in nasty ass puddles, here i come! haha. Got my winch in perfect condition now and all ready to go, i just gotta grab the chain from the cabin. Hows your winch coming along? My homies out at the beach informed my that here is a huuugee puddle at the skool!

One drunk night at free house watchin def 3 and other hiphop artists i ran into my old buddy adam burwell, who pretty much runs team sask and everything wakeboard related here. anyways i got talking to him how there is gonna b 3 winchs out at the beach this summer and he was stoaked. so i threw the idea of doin some sort of winch fest possibly on the main beach and he said to let him kno cause he'd bring team sasks grinch out and some other skaters from echo/pasqua lakes out, including mini grom mcmorrison. Smash

price.dan, I am jealous.I don't know what happens to the snow here but it skips the liquid phase.

I have been snow winching a few times this winter with a friends 10 hp. That has been my insperation for upgrading.
