I love AWS' fascination with the hateful message boards.

"So far we’ve done a good job of carrying over the technical names for tricks from skateboarding. Keep it up. There’s no room for “twirlycocks” in wakeskating."

ghetto bird = skateboard trick

EJazzle, Not saying it isn't a skateboard trick. But it goes for skateboarding too, and of course it's just my opinion, but i say call it what it is. A hardflip back 1 or some variation of the actual tricks involved. Don't get me wrong. Next time i land a buzzard flip or a frontside space train i'll let everyone know Laughing

It's fantastic. From what little I've read, the comments on AWS are more dramatic than most of what's on this site. Horay for mediocrity.

And for whatever hatred people have for some wakeboarding tricks, people either forget or don't recognize that some of those names were used in good humor (like whirlybird, hasslehoff, etc).

hmmmmm....I guess I am in the minority that doesn't want to make wakeskating rad. Personally I think people should worry a little less about what others think.

I'm with gporter and deepcove on this. If I didn't think wakeskating was rad (rad = fun IMO) I wouldn't do it and I could care less what everyone else thought. And I could care less how "legit" it is Rolling Eyes

I do agree with what some of the article says, about respecting others and making fun of yourself, more railjams and contests with 2.0, etc.

But I would have to disagree on other parts... Why take boat riding contests out at all? Could care less if certain wakeboarders think its lame. I enjoy watching it, the riders enjoy riding, and you never know what young spectator might see a w2w kickflip and might decide he wants to try wakeskating

just my 2 cents Very Happy

I like the last few posts on here and now I feel a lot better about things.

Yes, wakeskating IS rad.

Slapdown already said that the name issue applies to skateboarding as well--Mctwist and ollie are two easy examples. Both tricks were named after their inventors, so does that make them narcissistic? Whatever, I think it's OK to be creative. And I think ollie sounds better than vertical jump, or whatever you'd call an "ollie" had someone named it literally and not creatively. It would just be more lame if a wakeskater re-named an ollie on a wakeskate. Razz
