I am getting my degree in December and it's time to start applying for jobs and the industry website has a few jobs posted in FL. I am not too familiar with much about it but was wanting to get some feedback on different locations that I have noticed some people on here were from. I will be looking to be an assistant superintendent at a golf course after graduating.

My current prospects include(there are quite a few):

1. Pasadena Yacht & Country Club (Gulfport, FL)
2. Waldorf Astoria Collection (Orlando, FL)
3. Orange Lakes Resorts (Kissimmee, FL)
4. Tequesta Country Club (Tequesta, FL)
5. Colliers Reserve Country Club (Naples, FL)
6. PGA National Resort and Spa (Palm Beach Gardens)

I would like to hear everyones opinion on each location as far as having a good time, housing, wakeskating(winching), etc.

Well i can give you incite in two of those places.

I spent my middleschool-highschool years in Tequesta and Jupiter. The neighborhoods are great, the river is the life of the town and there are even a few decent bars down town. If you like fishing and boating its the place to be. Very nice town, great people and not much crime. I would love to live up there when Im ready to start a family and such.

Also Palm Beach Gardens is just a few exits south of Tequesta. Its a much larger town, much more modernized. Its great though. I have not gone far west of i-95 but east is beautiful. There is a huge mall, and many other town center places. The beach is close to both locations and there are lots of night life stuff to do with the movies and a few clubs around there.

Either choice its great, if you end up moving around here give me a PM and ill pull ya when i visit my folks. Im down 30 mins from there in Boca Raton finishing up school also. Ill be done before Aug. What field are you in?

ZackFL(BRE), none listed yet in Tampa but most definitely somewhere I am interested in. I have a friend that I have visited multiple times in Plant City a few years back and really enjoyed it.

-=AlexXx=-, Thanks for the information. That is exactly what I am trying to find out. Tequesta really seems like more my kind of place between it and Palm Beach Gardens. My degree is a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy. My emphasis is in Golf/Sports Turf Management (Growing grass basically, the legal kind).

How's the winching in these areas considering I just purchased one and that will be a majority of my riding?

Dude! absolutely no DOUBT Tequesta country club. Holy hell it would be sooo easy maintaining that course. Tequesta is such a small town, its like 4 square miles and its mostly rich old people and there is water everywhere. When i get out of college that is where i would want to raise my kids and live. Its super nice, quiet, everyone is really friendly. Its just an awesome place to be. And you are never more that a 2 minute walk to the water. That course isnt very big at all and there isn't much traffic other than the locals who really respect the course. But then there are us kids who love skimmin on the golf course after it rains. we still stay off the greens though Wink

pga national is HUGE, i think that might be where the bank is at and probably where you will get hired considering how big it is and how small Ttown golf course is. PGA national is really really nice. Mike G lives in there. I like it a lot. Its a huge ass neighborhood but it has quiet nice feel to it, sorta like tequesta. Its a wayyy busier golf course and youll probably catch a few pros playing there.

work at pga national and you are not 10 minutes from one of the most perfect gaps to hit. There are probably about 10 gaps no more than 15 minutes from you either place you work

Thanks guys! I am really starting to dig this tequesta gig. Sounds like my kind of place. Both jobs are offering close to same $$ so it basically comes down to preference. I am from Mississippi so a smaller town is more what I am used to for sure. The courses at palm beach gardens are for sure larger and a little more known but there is nothing like working for a small private club and getting to know everyone and the relationship to the members.

EJazzle, Good to hear they let everyone enjoy the nice smooth turf and skim the shiz out of it. It's great to hear the respect for the greens as well. I'm sure they'll continue to let the skimming go on as long as the greens are looked after.

ZackFL(BRE), yeah I like all of those things you listed for sure. I am most definitely keeping my eyes peeled for that area. Hopefully something will come up in the near future.

orange lake is a reeally nice/efin HUGE resort, we used to have a hair braider that worked there for my old company, the resort itself really is nice, its got a lazy river, actual year round residences, tons of golf courses, a lake a with a 210 and a bunch of jetskis, but all round its an incredibkle resort, and it really is big dude, like u get lost its so damn big. however i would suggest living on that side of town if u do choose it, u dont wanna make the daily commute on i4 into town n back, its a nightmare Crazy Eyes Smash

Tampa. is. awesome.

I live in North St. Petersburg, 10 min (less depending on traffic) from downtown Tampa, 20 min. from the cable park, 15 min. from clearwater and some sick beaches. There's so much to do no matter where you move in the Tampa area, it rules.

brassmonkey, We've got decent doctors here though. Medical advances have come a long way. So what if you have herpes? At least the symptoms will barely show.
