Microsoft is offering Windows 7 for $29.99 to students. Offer expires January 3, 2010 so if you want a legal copy and aren't a student, get someone to buy it for you. _________________ chance favors the prepared mind |

I was so stoked when I heard about this. I found the link from a site that I wasn't sure was reputable so I was a little sketched out about putting in credit info/downloading something.
Anyone try this yet to make sure it's all good? |

This is an update posted on Lifehacker's article on the same topic...
| Quote: | | The information below was the original text of this post involving a $19 Windows 7 Professional offering. We emailed the Association for Computing Machinery and heard back from Lillian Israel, director of membership, who noted that Windows 7 purchases have been pulled from the ACM's discounted license offerings due to misuse of memberships. | Evidently, you had to be in the Assiciation of Computer Machinery in order to take advantage of the deal...this wasn't for regular ol' students or whatever.

And yes, Kornhouse, Windows 7 RC is available for free and works for another year. _________________ facebook.com/TheLiquidPlayground

It is a downloadable UPGRADE version of Windows 7 Home Premium OR Professional.
You'd be crazy to not pick the Professional version, since the price is the same.
To pick the professional version, during the order/checkout process, look for "Need to join your school's network domain?" - since Premium cant connect to a domain, this is really a disguised link for you to get the Professional version for the same price. The preorder price for Professional was $99, so this is one hell of a deal!
You have to pick 32bit or 64 bit. Whether or not the key you get will work on either version is unknown to me.
Also, I'll stick to Windows xp. Windows 7 is Vista under a pretty towel. What do you guys think Vista was? A beta test for windows 7. It's a good deal but their not getting any of my money until a few service packs come out.
