So there's a lot of discussion recently over the original high quality footage from the Apollo 11 mission ... the first trip to the moon... the "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" footage. Apparently Nasa lost it... or something?

Some background: 2 years ago, back in 2007, Nasa released this info:
The tapes aren't lost, says the NASA official in charge of the search. But he doesn't know where they are. The original video, taken directly from the moon and beamed to deep space network observatories in Australia, has never been seen by the general public or even NASA officials.

Weird!!! So this original high quality footage has never been viewed by Scientists? wtf why not, seems like exploring a far away place, like the moon, for the first time would have scientists messing their pants to have access to the footage to analyze every little detail. This footage is easily one of the most important events in human history. Yet according to this article from NASA, NASA officials never even saw the original footage?

Then last month in June, NASA now claims that the tapes were recently found. An intriguing report in the U.K.'s Daily Express on June 28th stated "The missing tapes containing the original high quality images have been found." Yet strangely, a Google search reveals Fox News was the only other media outlet to report on this important finding.

Then a few weeks later on July 13th, NASA confirmed the finding with their July 13th press release stating some greatly improved moon landing videos would be released. Now comes the even more bizarre news today (Friday) from this Reuters report of a NASA release:

"The original recordings of the first humans landing on the moon 40 years ago were erased and re-used. They were part of a batch of 200,000 tapes that were degaussed – magnetically erased – and re-used to save money. But newly restored copies of the original broadcast look even better. NASA released the first glimpses of a complete digital make-over of the original landing footage that clarifies the blurry and grainy images of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walking on the surface of the moon.

The full set of recordings, being cleaned up by Burbank, California-based Lowry Digital, will be released in September. Lowry, best known for restoring old Hollywood films, has been digitizing these along with some other bits and pieces to make a new rendering of the original landing. The preview is available at www.nasa.gov."

What's going on here? NASA loses the tapes of one of the most important landmark events in human history. Then they find them, but parts have been erased to save money. And now Hollywood is being paid to restore the videos. How could they even have been lost in the first place?

It smells like bulljive to me... seems like some kind of cover-up and manipulation going on here. But why?

I want to believe we did, but when I think of the original footage I saw on TV/internet where the U.S. flag is "flying in the wind" on the moon cracks me up, then makes me doubt the truth of it all. Wind in a place with no atmosphere?

i heard somewhere that people were saying that they found mushroom shaped structures on the moon when they explored it, and that's why we haven't been back since.
I have no sources to back this up, i'm just throwing it out there.

taku, Im not saying that this isnt a conspiracy.... but i wouldnt like it to be.. that be to sad....but the flag wasnt blowing in the wind, i think it was propped up with wire or a stick so that you could see the stars and stripes

mr robotto, That's some pretty compelling evidence, as is taku's find, but even if the whole thing was a hoax..... What's the point? Is our government that corrupt that they will fake being the first to the moon instead of actually doing it?

i dont know what people are saying here, but we went to the moon. i have a brother in law that works there and i saw some amazing stuff, the things the tour doesnt show. the new rovers, some newer reentry crafts, new suits, and that HUGE vacuum chamber that sucks all the air out and gets down to the temperature of space. it is actually really cool, they use liquid nitrogen to cool the air down.
