Anyone know if this is possible? Pretty sure it is, and if so how do I go about it? My dad stopped using his vaio PC and it's got a pretty fast processor, wanted to set it up with Mac OS as an editing bay and clean my MacBook so it runs faster.

It depends on what chipset is in it (It has to have an Intel processor). Search 'hot to make a hackintosh' on google for more details. Mac OS will only run on specific hardware setups and even then there is some trickery involved. I don't think you could get it running on something like a Vaio but I've never tried it.

Soulprogression, yeh. Like burnone said. I've read about people doing some serious emulation but your going to get NONE of the performance of os x. you would need a bunch of ram on top of a decent processor but i guarantee you wouldn't be happy with the speed at all. It would be way to sluggish. When it comes to editing you want a bunch of free memory as well, so to emulate and try to edit on top of that is foolish. overall its not like running virtual pc or parallels either, ease wise.

so i would suggest just fixing up the pc with a good version of xp or maybe even a distro of linux. linux is definitely going to be the fastest with computations and be the most custom to what you specifically have for hardware.

GnarShredd, yep

I'm on a hackintosh right now.

It's not that hard, and it doesn't require emulation.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/ there is a ton of info, and a lot of step by step guides here.

Just search that forum for "vaio" and see if there are any posts about your system.

If what he said ^^^^^^ doesn't work than I'll just keep my eye out for a cheap copy of XP or Linux and do it up.
