hmm thinking of getting the sst 09 40.5 but how do you remove the fins if the grip is already pre attached? i understand that the screws are now on top unlike the previous models. does this mean i have to detach the grip?

Alex Lirio, you have to take off the grip of cut it out where the screws are.
unless you have some crazy screw driver that can bend and twist to get between the decks.

You may wanna re think that board. My buddy bought one at the ski ranch, he took the board apart to remove the fins then put it back together and took a couple laps around the cable. He hit the fun box a couple time and put a few scratches on it. Well he takes it apart again and the board is bubbled up at the screw holes . Now he can't get LF to warrenty the board because it has some scratches on the bottom deck. The bubbling or delaming or whatever is going on has nothing to do with hitting rails but he is screwed none the less. POS not made in the USA

I hit some ramps and rails and the board is just fine minus some scratches, I've cut out holes in the grip just around the screws, just try to locate them under the grip (you can look at pics of the board online and see where they are). It is a great skate though, try it if you can before buying.

I ride the SST 42 Composite. Works like a charm and is so far indestructable...

If sand or stuff gets between the decks it scores the surface. Might be that.
Otherwise post some pics...

Here's where the screws are located. Find one and then measure your way to the next etc. Use a sharp razor (or similar) and cut a small circle around each screw. (Attached is my SST 42 Reed with Cassette 4-track tribute colors)
Good luck.

How do I post pics, I have a whole bunch that I sent to the LF rep.
It is definetly not sand in there, but I have had that before. This is my 3rd SST to buy so I am pretty familiar with them. You would think the all composite would be the strongest, but it was the board that started falling apart in the least amout of time (one week). It is very frusturating to have $1200 tied up in wakeskates and still nothing ride. The only problem is I love how the SST rides and feels and would love to have one that is indestructable. In my opinion this is Silas Thurman's pro model board, so it should be able to take some abuse, definetely more than a couple laps around the cable. I just really want them to make this right so I can continue to be a happy SST riding customer.

What do yall think of the 09 SST compared to the 08 SST as far as how it rides (wood vs composite bottom)? The SST is my favorite shape but i've been waiting for LF to perfect it because I don't want it to fall apart like three SST's that I have seen in person. I don't know if it's in my head, but I really love the way wood skates feel compared to composite ones. People always say wood skates have more of a "skateboard feel", but I have never really skated so I can't relate to that. But I do feel that I like wood better. I ride the hampson now and feel like it's too light, and gets away from me and I can't control it as well when it leaves my feet, compared to the SST that is heaver I feel like there is more substane under me, and that it spins better. I also have tried the LF Mod and liked everything about it except that it wasn't wood. The concave on the Mod is AWESOME, more defined and you can feel the board so much better. So I really wish they could perfect the design of the SST with a wood bottom and steeper concave somehow, but whatever I dont think I will get my own pro model board haha. ok enough rambling on for now....
