| I found a 12.5 hp vertical shaft engine, will this work or does it need to be horizontal? |

i dont see why it wouldnt work. you'd just need to design everything sideways
and it wouldnt be as easy to design because i dont think anyone's used a vertical shaft before _________________ http://www.stickandflick.com

| Not unless you want to hook a hydraulic pump and drive to it. I guess you could put a helical drive gear system in or use a 90 box but thay are expensive and probably wont hold up to the shock and torque from the rider. |

You can't just mount your tav under the engine and have a sideways spool and chain cuz the chain would probably come out of line and/or always fall off.
And you can't just turn your engine sideways, or it would f**K up cuz the oil wouldn't lubricate the components properly and you would have to remount your gas tank cuz that probably wouldn't feed properly either. _________________ Aaron |

Use a slipper plate setup found on most driven snowblowers. I'll look for a diagram later.
Basically it takes a plate on the vertical shaft that spins against another plate (TAV) plate. They're pretty durable- my friend used one on his go-kart cause we got a 25hp motor from a ride-on tractor. Hasn't shown any signs of wear yet. _________________ You can't get hurt in the air.

I don't think they're talking about turning a vertical shaft motor sideways I think what they're saying is to use a Vertical shaft motor you could try mounting everything sideways (in a vertical position) as in the spool, TAV, Axle, Sprocket, and everything else _________________ Go Balls Deep Or Go Home |

Is there any way to keep tension on the rope even if there is nobody riding? Like have some type of fairlead that would create tension to the spool, even if the rest of the line is slack?
I'm not sure if that would even work but maybe? That might cause issues pulling the rope back out though unless it only works one way. Plus it would just make the whole thing too compicated, haha.
I think it can be done with some R&D. |
