Alright well I just bought my first skate this past week, and while we're waiting for the water to warm up a bit, we're just trying to figure out some things:
1) As we don't have access to a boat right now, we'll be using our Seadoo GTX with a weight ballast and fat friend as spotter, so wake size isn't a huge concern. Once his boat is in it definitely won't be an issue seeing as they have an XStar ha.
2) We're trying to figure out the best length of line for the jetski, so does anyone here use one? And what length line do you use?
3) What's the point of the non coast guard approved vests? Is there anywhere you can use em without getting busted? Cause where I'd be going the CG is always buzzing around..but the non CG vests are so much more comfortable hahah
4) Fins, fin, or finless? _________________ You can't get hurt in the air.

1) That's the beauty of wakeskating. You don't really need a wake at all to have fun.
2) Not sure, only have ridden behind a ski once.
3) That's pretty much the point, they're comfy. They definitely won't save you, haha. And as far as gettnig busted goes, it depends on how much your vest looks like a CGA one or not, and how well educated the local fuzz are about them.
4) Personal Preference. I used to ride with fins but now that I'm hitting rails more often, i've switched to finless. It really doesn't matter though, whatever you're comfortable with. |

try 65' total length. anything longer than 70' kind of takes away from the start up _________________ "I said take me to the sea, cause that is where I want to be. I said take me to the sea and let my mother bury me." Buck-0-Nine |

Thanks for the help guys- I just wanted to see what people's opinions were and stuff.
bob., did they fine you or just tell you to change it up?
And is there any reason to ride single fin? One of my friends does it on his wakeboard, but I don't understand why just 1 fin lol _________________ You can't get hurt in the air.

| its all prefrence but to give you and idea i like 65 on my rope. my vest isnt approved and the fuzz only stopped me once and all i did was show them my extra approved vest i had soo they couldnt catch me ridin dirty. and riding one fin gives you some slide when doing shuvs etc. and i guess you can do like boardslides too? |

| ive been busted recently 3 or 4 times gotten tickets each time so i went and got a CGA vest. behind my ski we ride 75ft, thast the lenght including the handle, and its the best lenght for the start up. and fins or no fins, just try all different ways and see what you like. no fins for me though.. |

Joeyskids....Your going to get a lot of different advice when you ask questions lke that. you have gotten alot of good answers...mainly all is preference. Go out experiment, see what works for YOU
65 ft 75ft 85 ft....it doesnt matter as long as you are comfortable with the pull....Rope length is determined by us so we can get the "sweet spot", the larger startup wake to boost out of and catch mad air...or what is considered Mad for a ski.
There really isnt much sense in weighting a ski....and after you get used to ski....boat is a different pull. Plus behind a ski you set up rails in shallower water and get to them as well.
You are going to find whenever you ask a question here your going to get every answer imaginable. If not told to search.
GL with WS. its alot of fun and stay safe. |
