For those that have been, where do you recommend we go and visit?

We're in search of fun surf in October, but not crazy huge breaks, but definitely something more fun than Florida break.

I recall reading that a bunch of you guys have visited.. so any pics or info would be most appreciated Very Happy

I stayed in Nosara a few years ago. Fun break that's not too crazy. Kind of off the beaten path which was nice too.

taku, ya, jaco has smaller, less gnarly waves yet, still very close to real rural country side.

I was reading more about the Jaco/Hermosa area and it seems pretty central to some nice areas we'd like to visit, and seems like it would be possible to make day-trips and return back to sleep at night..

taku, Jaco has become pretty Americanized and a little more urban than what suits my taste, Hermosa is just a few minutes in a cab away and it's a much better vibe...

I'll load pics when I get back from surfing, the tide is only gonna be good for a few more hours Smash

Hermosa is nice, a bit nicer than jaco.......but still a heavy wave. A very heavy wave. Nosara is a much more accomodating wave with lots of life and beautiful shells line the beach, but if u want a wave that keeps going like the bunny..........you are gonna have to make the trek south to pavones...............the longest left in the universe. cabinas de aleri. check on my boy alessandro. tell him jeffrey with his wife and dog miss them mucho.

Those pics just got me so pumped up! I'm sad the trip is still months away! ack, but thank you everyone, it looks like Hermosa is the place to stay with day trips around.

ps - Nick, nice video, what area was the wave Joey was killin on? Hermosa or elsewhere?

When we went, we stayed over in playa grande which is on the west coast of the nicoya penisula which had a nice beach break right in front of the house we stayed at, down the beach a little by tamarindo there is a nice pointbreak at the rivermouth, which is the local downtown and has tons of bars and clubs to visit but be careful at night a little sketchy with tons of prostitutes that are way to young. From here there is easy access to tons of amentities and activites such as horseback riding on the beach , fishing, ziplines etc. It is walking distance if you go during the day to cross the estuary, they stop the boats around nightfall however they're crocs in the rivermouth so be careful if you decide to swim across. We stayed there for a week and it did not seem enough. We surfed, playa grande, the rivermouth, took a boat out to witches rock and ollies point which I highly recommend for the best point break and a frame you will ever surf. After that I met up with some buddies in playa negra and surfed there for a few days. It is known for a break called little hawaii right on top of a crazy shallow reef shelf. It jacks up hard and quick like hermosa on a big day, however its a point break. Right next to it however is a more mellow beach break if you are not ready for the reef.
