Just sold my 96 ranger of 4 years.

Great little truck sad to part, we'd been through some good times, and I put her through hell but she never quit on me.

This one just kinda showed up on my front lawn, got a decent deal and looks like another good vehicle Very Happy Cool

I have it's a nice motor, buddies got one sitting in a mud truck on 38 boggers. Built the motor from ground up and she's probably pushin 340hp, will push those big tires sidewayz on the beast.

And not trying to start bickering or start a war over best auto manufacturer or anything. Just said some poor crafstmanship, said nothing about the motors, trannies will run for a while but crap out way before they should like most american vehicles. Too much little shizzle breaks too quick, shouldn't be taking your vehicle in or replacing much of anything before a good 5 years. Definitely have a better rep than dodge, chrysler, and ford, but I hear about too much shizzle breaking, maybe quality control issues? At least parts are cheap and Chevy makes a vehicle that's reasonable to work on. A lot if it's all in the way you treat your ride, but some things are beyond your control, why do so many American manufactured vehicles and transmissions crap out way before 200,000? We have the technology to make shizzle last, but the people with the money would rather have more of yours, so they make it break and cost you more before it should.

Now I'm drunk rambling, gonna end it here. Just trying to spread some stoke on the trucks I have driven and owned and the ones I currently own and drive. Maybe next time post a story about why you like what you drive. Confused

i love trucks, i have one myself (f-250), but whyyyyy do people brag about how much hp theres is putting out. its not like they handle great, maybe if your into drag racing trucks....trucks dont corner, they flip there not fun to drive. get a sports car if you want fun

its like saying my wife is a international supermodel and the great thing is that we never have sex

Soulprogression, Sorry, wasn't trying to dog your new truck. 4runners have solid track records in off roading, especially the first generation. They are also extremely reliable. That my friend, is a responsible purchase.

And as far as the expences you're talking about on 5 year old domestics is a little exaggerated. Even imports have scheduled maintenance outlined in the owners manual. For instance, alot of import motors are interference motors with timing belts instead of chains. If the timing belt snaps in an interference motor, the engine will become out of time and the pistons will smash the valve cylinders. On my Audi, it was 900 to change the timing belt and water pump. (Both of which should be replaced at around 100k for any interference motor. I had it done at 80k to be safe.) It was 750 for the same procedure on my old accord. Its not just domestics that are not engineered to be maintenance free, its all vehicles in general.

But any way, enough jacking, more on topic

nickl011, Pays to do your research, the timing belt was replaced at 100,000 miles, if it hadn't been when I had bought the vehicle that would've been my first project. Always good to learn from other peoples mistakes and experiences as well as your own. Not that I'm against paying someone to work on a vehicle for me, but if I can buy the parts and do the labor I feel more comfortable doing so, I think my bank account thanks me Smile

Calskater23, neighbour has one, it's quiet.... and efficient, not crazy about the styling but from what I've read and seen, looks like a great car.
