composite - all around durability, usually sharper rails, track and release faster.

wood - more of a skate feel, track smoother on the water.

go for something around 40-41 and you should be happy.

Since you're just starting out look for an entry level skate or a previous years model and save yourself some cash. Ebay has tons of oak and gator wood and composite skates for good prices.

Also check the classifieds on here, always something up for a steal.

Have fun and shred Cool

www.newwakeskates.com

Andy P's board would be a good size for you.

everyone on this site will tell you integrity, but I suggest trying one before buying it

-Supra-, new, also a very reputable wood skate. and can't go wrong with an integ, a little pricey however, give them a couple months and they'll have a entry level priced wood/composite skate on the market.

Composites last longer.
Some people prefer the feel of a wood board.

You should get something between a 38 to a 42. (a good all around size is about 40")

I recommend Integrity, Oak, Liquid Force, New, Sattelyte and about a half a dozen other brands I'm forgetting.

No one is going to be able to tell you what board you should get, b/c you don't know what you like in a board yet. If you can't demo a board, just get a board that's in your price range with some features that interest you and you will be alright.

so i have narrowed it down to either the hyperlite 08 catalyst, or the oak chubby, or the liquid force mod. what do you guys think about those three boards??

catalyst and chubby are complete opposite boards.
the catalyst i the longest board made and pretty narrow for its size, where the chubby is a short board and really wide.
if you are going to be mainly winching i would choose the Mod because it can take more abuse. but the down side is it has a normal foam core so if it cracks it will soak up tons of water.

don't get a catalyst. it's the worst skate on the market and i have ridden it. the catalyst 2.0 is pretty good if you can find one. the 2.0 is very durable. good luck

DanK., Yep. The 08' and 09' Horans are solid boards.

DanK., dont let that mods weight fool you
once its out of the water and flying through the air it dosent feel as heavy

but i personally hated the way it rode , im sticking to the 08 LF 40.5 sst (again personally, not facts)

I have the 08 Horan and I'm sure there's other boards I'd like more but out of 10-15 boards I've tried, I'm sticking with this as my wood concave! It has great weight so it feels stable without feeling slow/sluggish. I feel it tracks easy and spins easily. If you can find one for cheap like I did (eBay $110 shipped!), get it and you will be very happy. Plus, Mikey is the man and is a great guy.
