Brand new to wakeskating got weird boat and got questions.

I currently live on a island in Panama with lots of flat water surrounding me but the only boat I have access to is a short skinny ponga. I wakeboard so naturally I tried to wake board behind it. It worked but not much of a wake and with the rope being tied so low it kinda sucked.

I figured maybe wakeskating behind it would be a better idea?

Do you think I need to get a ski pylon to wakeskate effectively?

Also what kind of wakeskate to you recommend for beginners? I wakeboard a lot and surf some so don't know if that matters.

I been looking at the Liquid Force SST and think it sounds great. Will it matter getting a advanced board like that when just starting? My other option I guess is getting the cheaper Faction board.

What do you guys think is better for a beginner. Pic of boat below.

Welcome!

Personally i would go with the SST over the Faction, it is more durable, more pop, and LF has put way more work into it, compared to the faction, and i wouldn't worry about it saying its an advanced level board its a great board to learn to wakeskate on.

A ski pylon would be a good idea, but its not a "have to have" thing, you can wakeskate just fine without one, but it will help you keep the handle to your hip and not be pulling you over your board so much.

you don't need a pole, but it's nice. get your hands on one of those things that hooks on either side of the engine and you attach your rope to that. get a flat skate. they are cheaper and will get you started and then some. hyperlite, liquid force, new, devotid, etc all make decks. look at the brand list on the left of the home page. just wear a pair of skate shoes that arent that bulky and go for it.

I personally would not recommend an SST for a beginner. As the others said, a flat deck is more affordable, but if you're absolutely set on wakeskating it might not be bad to look at a concave either. I just think that an sst is going to be more difficult for a beginner to maneuver...bi-levels can be heavier, but I also think it's not quite as big of a deal if you already have some solid fundamentals down, like having a nice ollie and such. So I would wait on the bi and just look at a flat deck or a concave because I think those will be easier for you to ride.

Also, you don't need to have an extended pylon because this isn't wakeboarding! This might sound cheesy, but with wakeskating I think you're more in touch with the water and there are so many more options for progression and personal gratification because you don't just have to fly across the wake. Your little boat will be perfect for flats tricks, lip tricks, maybe little re-entry tricks. And if your boat works well enough to rock wake to wake, that's just another option for you! But you're not trying to go 10 feet in the air, you know?

I really want to get one of those things that I can hook on either side of the engine and it goes in a v around the engine and then I hook my rope to that. What are those called? Where can I get one. I think that is crucial so the weight is evenly distributed and the engine does not catch the rope.

Your boat looks really fun to wakeskate behind.

I would recommend starting with a simpler board than an SST, bi-levels are a type of board that not everyone likes and it will be hard for you to learn the basics on one. Flat decks or a simple concave would be the best for your first board... but no matter what you do, remember to have fun! because that's really all that matters in wakeskating.

bosstone, they are called tow harnesses. you can find them at most marine retail stores.

like they said above, tat boat will be great for wakeskating. no need for a pylon or bilvel.

What concave boards are good for beginners. i am good at wakeboarding and snow boarding so I think i will be able to pick this up quick. Don't want to get something I will grow out of quick cause getting stuff to my island in Panama is a pain in the ass.

check out a 41" or 42" board. just do some research and if you can check em out in person. i know some online companies let you send it back if you don't like it for store credit.

i would pick up a liquid force concave.... i think they are great to learn on and are very easy to find.... also look into oak, new, or satellite concaves.... 40 to 41 inches.... you should be set with a concave like those.... easy to learn on but still sick enough boards to really progress on.... you wont out grow it due to progressing

a four stroke outboard yamaha will work gloriously

i have one thats got 850 hours on it that hasnt been serviced in 200 hours and still runs like a champ, youll be fine, yamahas are the shizzle

and just have a good time man i can almost gurantee you will, after you land your first shuv you'll be hooked for life
