|
|
Ok, this little pond by my house could make for a perfect pool gap.. the pond is a few feet below the woods line, so the actual starting pool doesn't need to be elevated.
I know there's lots of people on here who have built these.. please post any info, pics, building methods, materials to be used, length and width of starting pool, basically anything I can use to get started.. thank youuuuu _________________ ------------------------------------------------------

| Brett Leadley, It's hard to tell where land is for me in those pictures but if you have about 80ft of clearing at one end you can put your pool there if there is a few feet of land across from it for the winch. |

brett, your pond shots remind me of that movie with macully culkin called 'step son" or something like that. there's a scene where he's skating with his little sister and he's like swinging her in a circle and he eventually flings her into the thin ice area, where she of course falls through the ice. Elijah wood has a horrified look on his face as he sees this unfold, but he's left helpless becuase he doesn't have his skates on. he's just spinning on the ice like a little bambi.
So I'm sufficiently creeped. what were we talking about?

electricsnow, i think its called the good son.
weve had a start pool or 50 feet and it was enough so you could set up to ollie so i would say 50 feet at a minimum but definitely go long if you can |

Yo, that movie made me think Culley was evil especially the ending when the mother has to choose which son to save, and Culley tries to persuade her like the devil.
Brett, good God that scene looks money! Ever think about a rail jam there? _________________ If you don't like my fire then don't come around. Cuz I'm gonna burn one down.

8' start dock
6x40' start pool
16' rail
12x40' landing pool

here's some more pics, thanks for the replies but I guess what I'm really looking for is info on the starting pool.. like how high the sides should be, and what is the best thing to use as a liner- tarps, boxes of industial trash bags, or I wonder if there are companies that sell large dimensions of plastic sheets?

your start pool can be 2 feet, that makes cutting the plywood easier. And as for the liner, you can check the paint section at home depot. You can either use their tarps or the sell a plastic drops that are like 35' by 60'. dont try to use a bunch of individual pieces of plastic or trash bags. they wont hold water.
hope that helps. |

Brett Leadley,
I would recommend going to Home Depot, buy the $80 black 6 or 8 mm, I can't remember. But it's 20ftx100ft fold it in half and make a "sandbox" you lay the liner in and then fill with water. Remember to add the hight of your walls to to the total of your 20 ft of liner, and even some more so you can fold the sides down. Do you get to leave it up and not have to move it? Looks like a sweet spot!!
Here are a few pics I found of the box. I have some of when we were building it. They are just in a larger file of pics to dig through.... but I will look for them some time soon
We put the green turf down for when first timers try on board or skate some times you can make nice little holes in your liner.
On the left we did brace it enough and the ground is always wet from spray so it bows way out, but it lets us have the chance to hit the 2 wide from both sides
Depending on how high you make your box, you will need lots of side bracing. All my pressure is at the rail in of my box. over 3ft deep. and its always full cause of a creek we siphin water out of to fill the waterbox and pond, then the pond has an overflow.
You can see the over flow on the far side of the pond
I used little corner brackets doubled up on every board top to bottom.
Let me know if I can help any more besides paying for it LOL Home Depot Charge Card, spend more than $300 and no int% or payments for 6 months.
Hope to see u soon!

Thanks Zak!! Great info, I had no idea Home Depot sold the liner stuff.. If I can get it built it is staying there for good I hear you about the bracing, that's why I want to build it between those two trees.
Are the sides of your box plywood? How much $ do you think you spent and the start pool, not including the rails? _________________ ------------------------------------------------------

Brett Leadley, I used 2x10 and 2x12's... I think they are stronger. I spent about $600 I think but I had a house being built right behind mine and they stole 50% of my view so, They gave me more 2xs' Oh, If you do the Home Depot CC, say you don't spend the $300 needed for the 6 months, just buy the balance on a gift card _________________ OTT, West West Yo

i built a pool out of dead trees, its like 75 feet long 8ft wide and 3 ft tall. the only $ i had to spend was for the plastic and an ax to get the trees the right size. _________________ "POP IT, FLICK IT, CATCH IT, STICK IT" |
