hmmm... interesting... i agree and disagree on certain parts, and i'm sorry but i laughed when he mentioned "waterboarding". i've had a few people walk up to me and ask how the waterboarding was doing Laughing

they never really answered this question “If you’re so hell-bent on turning winching into skateboarding why don’t you just skate then?”

i wonder the same thing. it seems they look down on wakeskating and wish it was skateboarding, so why not stop wakeskating and just skateboard.

they talk about how winching is limitless, but they are limiting themselves by only winching and not using boats and PWCs as well. seems hypocritical. winching is rad but i want to do it all

i love wakeskating

winching is rad but i want to do it all--nicely stated. dj chavez once said, i hate when people call skateboarding a sport. it's an art. i dont go around patting guys on the ass. all the medium for getting a pull is kind of like art. you have to explore everything to realize what can be done

"winching is rad but i want to do it all" agreed Very Happy

"i hate when people call skateboarding a sport. it's an art" ... its both an art and a sport... just my 2 cents

Skating is athletic, but I think the difference is that a lot of people who start it aren't doing it to be competitive or anything like that (outside of just challenging yourself). It's not team oriented. It's individualistic and can be very imaginative if that's how you choose to apply yourself...I think that's a huge difference between most boardsports and basketball or whatever, and that's why I also would not call skating a "sporting" activity.

Anyway, I agree with a bunch of stuff in that article, but there's also a lot that can be debated. Like thomas said years ago, if something is good people will try to make money off of it, and it's the same thing with skateboarding. Different people try to do different things and I guess it depends on what kind of potential people see in it--is it a money making opportunity, or is it the kind of potential you see and want others to see and enjoy in the same way you enjoy it? obviously both kinds exist in the boardsport industries, but the recognition of potential and good people backing the artform is a good thing because it allows for progression (like with boards and such).

I also couldn't give up the wake. I really love lip tricks and I love re-entry stuff. i couldn't get either from winching.

I guess it's also worth noting that while wakeboarding kind of gets a bad rap in article, in the beginning there were respectable non-wake dudes who were taking a liking to wakeboarding (check out any of the old FLF snow vids and you'll see what I mean). It really does suck though because there was a clash of cultures (so to speak) and the waterski mentality basically dominated (closed mindedness). I think that wakeskating is blessed in that it actually had the chance to grow up in the right hands.

but regardless, I really respect that those guys have developed this outlet for their opinions and their journeys! It's seriously just more diversity in wakeskating and they aren't doing what everyone else is doing. And aron gore will always be classic in my book.

i think one thing that gore sort of misses is the mega industry of skateboarding and surfing... plus he shopped at wal-mart or lowe's or something to buy his winch rope, the most corporate of business environments that puts little mom and pop hardare stores out of business.. (kind of like small wakeskate companies) but whatever to each his own.. you gotta have guys like gore in the industry for sure

and for the la sewer crew.. i had a good time too.. cheers fellas!

"Stop trying to control everything and just let go!"

I love the La Sewer guys but this isn't fvcking church, do what you want, ride behind what you want and just have fun with it.

I don't see how winching turned it into "skateboarding on water" opposed to "wakeboarding without bindings". I guess flats 3 flips are just too heavily influenced by wakeboarding. Rolling Eyes

I will agree on supporting rider-owned companies, though!

Nice post, tad.

This was one of those commentsI disagreed with. If you're talking about 1998 or whatever, yeah, maybe some of it was more like wakeboarding without bindings because I think that a number of people didn't really take full advantage of being bindingless (but spinning and boosting off the wake was still technical, and I'm not trying to talk that down at all). But straight up, even go back to lip tricks and that's the farthest thing from wakeboarding without bindings, or drew exploring body varials wake to wake. That guy was seriously gnarly. (though these days he's still bad tot he bone Cool )

NaRC-P rider, if i had to guess, the majority of stuff was sent to the photo editors of the two magazines... after they come out, you'll see more.

Coincidentally I drove by the anderson gap today and the only way to hit it would be some crazy skimboarding action. Seriously though you would either need a lot of sand bags or some other contraption because I doubt they will put that blocker that used to be on there back up.
