Wishing I lived in Florida right about now. He didn't come through my town, and I missed Girl Talk too... good thing I have an amazing girlfriend who bought tickets to Girl Talk in Des Moines in January!!! _________________ www.kcwatersports.com |

I definitely have a different image of Conor Oberst after the show last night. _________________ √ |

His music always felt very personal, but until this show last night... I don't know. I never had a feeling that he resented playing for crowds, but now I can't shake it. He performed amazing and he's obviously very passionate about making music, but I also know that some consider art to be private (in whatever form). Listening to some of the Bright Eyes albums, it made more sense that he has mixed feelings about having to deal with crowds, most of who can't and won't understand any of it and just go because it's the cool thing to do. That would kill me. The whole concept of Valle Mistico and just going away from everything with a few friends to create music in a limitless environment is awesome, I would love to adapt it to wakeskating, imagine just 5 of the world's most creative wakeskaters going to tropical country and building a watery berrics for a few months  ) At some point he had to decide that he wants to share his creation with the world on some level and since you can't handpick your audience, the newly mainstream artist is going to come face to face with at least a little bit of disappointment/regret when his image becomes larger than himself...
It could all just be my perception based on what I saw and the assumptions I've made about Conor Oberst as a person from listening to every word he's ever sung.
Either way, I love and respect what he's done, what he does, and what he's doing
I just hope he's happy _________________ √ |

nick, did you get that from seeing the crowd or from him?
i didnt see that at all when i saw him. he seemed to be having a great time and he was talking with the crowd between some songs, and he seemed genuinely happy. maybe it was different because he was playing in San Francisco |

wakemitch, Well I was in one of the fakest places in the world, a rich area of southeast FLA, so that could've been it.
It could have been any number of things really. It was just the realization of the possibility that hit me last night... _________________ √ |

nick, i think it must have been a location thing.
but i also never thought about that. he pours his soul into his music and then he is surrounded by an audience that doesnt really care about what it means, but that its the cool thing to do. but im sure he will keep coming to those places because there will always be the few that get it. |
