last. what else do i need besides the amp and the subs. wires obviously but do i need anything else? _________________ -andrew- |

Andrew MassIVE, First you'll want a mono amp, not a four channel amp. The amp you posted (aside from being a no name brand garbage amp) is meant for powering 4 speakers. You could use it to power a sub...but a mono amp for subs are better.
My personal preference is Pioneer Premier...I have 2 10" Pioneer Premier championship series pro subs with a Pioneer Premier PRS mono amp in my car wired @ 4 ohms. They hit super clean and get real loud.
JL audio also makes nice subs.
First you have to decide whether you want single voice coil. double voice coil or even triple voice coil subs. Simply, more voice coils (or magnets) the more power a sub can take.
You'll also want to figure out what you want to wire you subs at...1 ohm (not recommended) 2 ohm (most common) 4 ohm or 8 ohm. This is the amount of resistance that you wire your subs at...it has to do with how your subs match your amp settings.
Examples of sub wiring for dual voice coil subs:
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=161
As for wiring...you'll want want to wire in a fuse in the main power line no more than 3 feet from the battery. A lot of people say capacitors help from keeping your lights from dimming...and if you're running your subs at high power with your ghetto beats cranked all the time...you may want to invest in one.
Anyways, I suggest you visit this website and do some reading...it gives you very simple explanations of how car audio works and how to set it up properly:

You need the rest of the system IMHO. Just adding a bunch of bass over a stock system is weak, esp two 12's. Balance it out with highs, midrange, midbass, etc... You can get a nice 4 channel amp, bridge it and have a decent setup that way. If you are going to just add 12's to a vehicle, you may as well go cheap, the overall system is gonna sound like stuff anyway. _________________ Sattelyte Wakeskates

Agreed. I did all my speakers and head unit before I did subs. |
