tjmac, neither flips you over. My helium floats pretty well, even if I completely exhale, my head is still above water. _________________ If you don't like my fire then don't come around. Cuz I'm gonna burn one down.

as long as it keeps you near the surface you should be good if your buddies in the boat are smart enough to realize you didnt surface and they come grab you out of the water |

people have died from wearing non-cga vests. http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=72277 This link is a story about a guy who drowned while wearing the jet pilot a-10 vest. A guy took a fall, and never came back up to the surface. I myself do not always wear a cga vest. sorry about being a debbie downer, but its something that everyone should be aware of. _________________ integrity-wake.com | chriscut.com |

chriscut's link is really powerful...it's completely sad and unfortunate. it's actually really crazy to read about the information exchanges between that guy's brother and JP. Oh, and you're not being a debbie downer--it's a reality.
Debbie downer-ish being at disney world, going on the "it's a small world ride" while discussing world poverty, etc.
Wahhh, wawwww....(that's the debbie downer horn sound--if you've seen it, you know) (oh, and the example was kind of inspired by an old debbie downer skit)
anyway, normal coastguard approved vests won't flip you over, but they will keep you on the surface so people can pull you out of the water. At least you have a chance of being found. I don't know that you can fully replicate being knocked unconscious, and I will admit that some Non CGA vests float better than others. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

dylo, most mags wont publish shots where riders aren't wearing vests. I've been denied a couple times because of this. _________________ integrity-wake.com | chriscut.com |

dylo, lets be real here. they have already tried to premote wearing vest but do you expect people to start wearing vest winching just so they can send it in to a mag....
skate at your own risk.
i would like to see sick pics when looking thru mags (vest or not) not some crappy photo that made it in just because the rider is wearing a vest. _________________ HOTDOGS! |

dylo, wakeboarding magazine originally tried that, but it really didn't work because I know some really good shots were sort of snuck in (or whatever) because of that rule. the thing is, people need to be wearing an approved vest. Again, a lot of the non approved vests aren't going to float you if you knock yourself out, so I think it's kind of like promoting a false sense of hope. I know they have been publishing shots of riders without vests, but they also have disclaimers and things of that nature, which let people know that they really should have a vest on.
i think with winching, most people can accept riders aren't going to wear a vest if the water is shallow and things like that. the asterisk trip was in WBM in 2004 and I don't think anyone wore a vest during that trip (minus the lake mead stuff?), and this was when they had their vest policy. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

i have been unconious, face down with a CGA vest, If im going w2w im always wearing a CGA vest, but just cruzin usually just a white T. I used to be so anti not wearing a life jacket. But it has infact saved mine and a few of my freinds lives, whether its gettting impailed by a tree branch or the board hitting you in the head, a CGA life jacket has always came in handy. Some oniell's could pass as CGA's but the jet pilots etc arent worth a sh*t imo. maybe its just cause im fat It isnt really worth not wearing a life jacket no matter how many people are around or how deep the water is. You could drown in 4 inches of water just as easily as you can in 14 feet of water. One gulp of water into your lungs, kiss everything goodbye (unless some one around knows CPR)
