Water sports groups using militia in their name

Please dont take this the wrong way, I am just curious... Why do some water sports groups put militia in their names?

When I think of militia I seriously think of Wako Texas. Lets look at the definitions of militia and see if they fit Smile

MILITIA
#1. The whole body of physically fit civilians eligible by law for military service.

Hmmm.. that could be it but I doubt that is the intended meaning.

#2. The whole body of physically fit civilians eligible by law for military service.

That seems the same as above so I dont think that is it either.

#3. An army composed of ordinary citizens rather than professional soldiers.

Hmmm... an army of extreme sports people made up of non professionals. Maybe that could apply it depends on what army stands for... lets see what its definition is:

ARMY:
#1. A large body of people organized and trained for land warfare.

Hmmm... that cant be it because this is also for water sports Smile

#2. often Army The entire military land forces of a country.

Nope thats not it.

#3. A multitude; a host: An army of waiters served at the banquet.

Thats not it either.

Conclusion:
I don't see how it fits Smile

I'm in a militia because we shoot people. Tubers throwing quadruple ups in the only smooth arm of a gigantic lake? Those suckers get blown away. Somebody does a raley? They got shot like an empty pop can. Water cops trying to lay down the law? We are the law, so we win.

Think of the militia being referred to as in The Patriot. Bands of well dressed dudes with flip brimmed hats, pony tails, cool looking boots and muskets.

I think any "extreme" sporters using militia, other than the Metal Mulisha in Moto X is kinda ripping off the Moto X version. Either way, I find it kinda lame when people claim a name for their "posse" unless they are a super legit group of riders, etc
