Hello. I am planning to build a wakeskate soon, but i have one problem. Fins. I would not like to buy them because they will cost just as much as my board, so i have desided to make my own. The only problem is i have no idea how to. I think i would cut the rough size with a saw, and sand it to the right size. I just have know idea how thick, or wide they should be. If i make them abot 1.25 inch's tall, how many inch's wide, and how thick should they be? Also, how would i go about ataching them to my board? Just using screws? I really need some help. Thank You.

I am not going to buy any, so don't bother telling me to. I just need to know how long, and how thick the fins need to be. I also need to know how to attach them.

The problem is that the fins will cost as much as the board. Can you at least tell me how thick ORDINARY fin's are, and how there attached. I'm just wondering. Also, how long are they? Thank you. (if you help that is)

Thank you for the quick reply. Any board or fin's really, seeing as there preety much the same. Im going to make a small board, so im going to use about 1 inch fins. I have one last question, on real wakeskates, how are they attached? Also, how would i attach bought fins to a homemade wakeskate? Thanks again for all your help so far.

A really cheap alternative that I did for a friend on his four trac was I bought some cheap plastic fins 3 to 5 bucks a peice then I cut them down to roughly .7 inch and sanded them smooth the fin sorta has a flat top , but it still tracks some and is nearly indestructible gives the skate a molded fin feel

When i made my first skate i made them out of bondo, in a old wakeboarder mag article it talked about making molded fins on your wakeboard with bondo, so i gave it a shot. I just put two screws through the board so they came out the bottom and them shaped the fins over the screws. The screws give support to the fins so they dont sheere off. It worked fine and they are easy to sand to the right shape. They held up pretty well they lasted longer then my crappy fiber glass job did. On my second skate i knotched the bottom of the skate simalerly to the gate and integerty skates bases and ride it with no fins.

you can see them in the second pic on this post
