That's the only thing I can think of, he made a deal with the devil. Once again he won the final at J-Bay. That's 4 out of 5 events this year( and the only one he didn't win was won by wildcards so none of the players really made up any ground). Gotta be one of the most amazing competitive displays in any sport ever. Simply unbelievable.

DirtyCracker, hell yeah he is! 10 titles = $10,000,000 bonus from Quik. I'd say that's motivation enough.

DirtyCracker, he may be humble but the guy is driven to compete, how else would he always seem to win more. You gotta admit though, having already far exceeded all of his expectations and goals, he's got some fresh bait in front of him and he gonna do his best to snag it, not so much for the monitary gain but more for personal triumph and a great big" whose got the last laugh now".

941_swampweed, and I bet he was a cocky lil shite, not mister humble like he is today. Read enough stuff and heard enough associates storied to know that he was a lil punk back then. Never the less, he is a surf icon to say the least!

I think part of his constant victories has to do with his age. He's been around long enough to have learned how to play the mind game during competition which is a major edge..

Kelly Slater has always been very in tune with the mind [games] from what I've seen. He's one of the most intelligent people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and he definitely knows how to psyche out a noob in the lineup.

LiquidForce71, more than that, a win pays $30,000 and he has 4 of them and a 17th pays around $5000 so aboud $125,000 just in winnings. Thing is is that a back of the pack golfer that makes the cut in 5 comps would easily make more than twice that. Sad isn't it.

LiquidForce71, very true, but you get the point I was making, though I will admit I love me some golf too.

He's probably got the most competitive drive of any top athlete out there. He's so focused and when he's on his surfing just flows and looks so good, like he's just surfing for fun.

Think about how impressive it is that he's already got 8 World Titles, and probably going to take 9 and 10 with ease. Surfing's like no other sport, especially in competitions, the medium is never the same. You can play basketball in another stadium and while it may be different than your home teams stadium, the court is always the same. Waves are never the same, i've been surfing for a good chunk of my life and can honestly say i've never had two waves that were exactly the same. You have to be so focused on what's going on at the exact moment and even seconds before something happens to surf good.
