Mind you as a wakeskater I am no pro, but I am not a cook either, I catch my tricks and can do some moves wake to wake like FS 180s and lip tricks like 270s and shuv variations. But it seems to me that for an average rider like myself (good enough to place at colleigate events though) today's newer bulkier boards just seem to suck to me. Granted BT, George Daniels, and Reed Hansen are killing it on the vinyl, legacy, and zariel respectively, being one to be able to try these boards I have found every one of them to be slow, heavy, and just plain boring to ride. I've even ridden the duece pop, and compared to all these boards I just can't bring myself to put down my '05 Byerly (catalyst 2.0) in exchange for one of these cinderblocks with fins.

I guess my question that I pose to you is: Does anyone out there share my opinion that nothing feels as good as a good ol' fashioned wood concave or a foam board similar to that? And, are there really any riders out there with skill who thinks otherwise?

Also I would like to say that this is my opinion and I do respect yours so don't start bashing me b/c I don't like your board.

most boardsports go through stages of trial and error, board shapes evolve and new concepts are created. its all part of it so sit back and enjoy it i say. Im a fan of the simple timber concave board but really don't mind what my friends or anyone els wants to ride as long as they like it.

gatorskater, Your getting Pwned so bad right I'm laughing so hard. Anyway if your so good then why can't you ride those boards like BT and others. Theres a guy on here named The Joker that can 3 flip a vinyl. So get back to me when you can 3 flip any board. Did you think thats just your opinion on how those boards ride. Maybe other people don't think

You guys are getting a lot more "narcissistic bs" out of that post than I am, and I really don't think him questioning the evolution of board design is him "bashing the sport." i think he brings up a reasonable point, because if you pick up a wood concave or flat deck from ~02, there is going to be fairly significant difference in weight, and all of the boards he mentioned do have a lot more weight to them. For instance, this year's LF concaves are close to twice the weight as my 4-trac. Plus, today's boards probably weigh more than those old yellow waterskates from 01. Anyway, most are aware that there are some riders who really dislike heavy boards because they require a lot more effort to bring around, but over the years, people have been requesting that more weight be added to certain boards. It is a personal thing...

That said, I've actually had the most fun on a heavier board (cassette bi-level). For the longest time I rode a flat deck and while I dont' regret that time at all. and I cherish it quite fondly, I am much happier to be on a bi-level (or a more advanced board). I just really like the life that board has. Conversely, I really have not ridden one of the older or ligher concaves to really comment on their radness, but I will be test driving and breaking in an integrity, and hopefully an Oak Ben horan, since that board, to me, has an amazing shape.

I agree, I don't really like the bi-levels and I think they're too heavy. I think around 7-8 lbs is a good weight, but that's just my opinion.

I picked up and held a Vinyl yesterday to feel the weight compared to my 2006 NT 41. The Vinyl must be made out of solid rock. I'm sure BT kills, but I probably could not do anything besides ride on that cut down wakeboard. That thing has to be 15-20 pounds. I did not care for the steep kick angles either.

jake .R., take it a lil easier on him he's a newb, he probably just wants everyone to know that he's not some idiot that doesnt know a thing about wakeskating

"Does anyone out there share my opinion that nothing feels as good as a good ol' fashioned wood concave"

ya i do, i still havent found a board that rides as good as the "Gator Graffiti" 41.5

The Oak lifetrap came really close though, i could have probably loved that if i owned it.

ive been riding bi levels and i'm not really a fan of the extra weight, its a lot harder to catch shuv to indys, but on the other hand, flats 3 shuvs feel really good

i been not posting not expressing any type of idea lately just been riding but bored sitting at home so i thought i post it up some.

I road the byerly Legacy for a long time. The board is solid. I tore it up so much and there was never any sign of wear other then the coating coming off which was kinda like a defect i guess.

I now ride a bi-level. The board weighs like 11 pounds. It is sick. It pops so much differently then any concave. The weight is sick so much mo consistant. Anyone who says a type of board sucks is a fool. Why bash a board?

Someone told me that im so consitant because i ride a bi-level that its easier on a bilevel. Boards are legit so stop hating ride your boards stop hating.
