You have to have a engine that has a horizontal shaft man. You will have to buy a different engine _________________

no one has built a winch with a vertical shaft before, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. Would it be possible to build a winch with a yertical spool??? Riding lawn mowers have a gearbox that transfer the vertical power to horizontal transfering power to the wheels. Something similar could be used for a winch.
LiquidForce71, If you aren't very experienced with engines you may be in over your head, but if you want to learn building a winch is a great way to do it. It will be tough with the engine you have but not necesarily impossible, but hey it was free. If I were you, I would figure why not give it a shot. If you are able to figure something out you will have pushed winch building to a whole other level. |

| Classy, I dont see why not. the spool could spin on a vertical axis instead of a horzontial axis. |
