As i sit here studying for my last exams i just want to give a big shout to devotid for making such a sick deck for 270 bones. I took my first 30 sets on it over our 5 reading days here in NC and already can tell this is gonna be a great summer. The Passion has definitely got me inspired to ride hard this summer.
Ive been reading ws.com daily for over a year now and barely post but i just want to say all of you guys are a great resource but wakeskating is developing into a scene where all kids need to wear 6.0's and ride the most expensive integrity board that comes out. Dont obsess over things like that, and dont ride a board just because every else on this site is. I still shred hard on my cassette boombox flat that i paid 100 for back in like 02 behind my old jetski and nothing is more fun. I have a terrible pair of the original dvs wakeskate shoes full of holes and it doesnt matter at all. The point of this rant is though, Devotid rocks and be an individual. _________________ Letting the days go by, letting the water hold me up-Talking Heads |

Sorry that I rambled a lot; my mind is full of 20 milligrams of adderall, public policy statistics, and dreams of getting back to my ps3 for more grand theft auto 4. _________________ Letting the days go by, letting the water hold me up-Talking Heads |

I'm not saying that anything this person said isnt true...Just "Hey I just rode 6 times per day for 5 days straight, and my brand new Devotid wakeskate that I paid 270 bucks for!!!!!"
"PS, dont worry about havent shoes that grip awesome wet, just rock nasty shoes, and 100 dollar flat decks!!!!!"
It's weird to put those two things in the same post.
it reminds me of something a high school guidance counselor would say.
This person has ws.com all wrong. Alot of us are rocking ghetto boats, cut down boards, o god not not six point oh's. And heaven forbid a bunch of people buy a deck with the most promising innovative future of any other skate brand(in my, and alot of other ws.commers eyes) _________________ 10101 |

What im saying is
A) i dont consider myself an outsider because even though i joined this board in august of last year, ive been reading it since about feb. 07.
B) I got a new Devotid that im stoked on.
C) This board has recently (since around chirstmas) filled up with what seems to be 15-16 year olds who are obsessed with what everyone else is riding and posting 100s of times about "which integ they should buy"
D) Im not saying integrity doesnt make boards worth that price, i just dont think its the only board people should consider. Ive been wanting an old Lemons for a long time but i refuse to pay what others on this site would for one so i guess ill never get one.
E) Ive lived on the lake my whole life and watched wakeboarders like my brother blow all their money trying to emulate pro wakeboarders style and equipment. I loved wakeskating from the beginning cause it wasnt about what you had, or even if you were good, its just about loving to ride. I cant do bigspins or kickflips yet and ive been riding for longer than most who can but i dont care at all because i only judge my riding against my own skills.
This is probably the most ill ever post on this site because its a great excuse to not study. Moral of the story, listen to lonesome crowded west, shred hard, dont go to UNC. _________________ Letting the days go by, letting the water hold me up-Talking Heads |

Gatortails, I would have to agree with you, When I first came on this site I was reading alot of posts and all I really read about was integrity's, so I bought one and personally it wasnt the board for me, so I tried numerous other boards and came to the conclusion that you cant take someones word about how a board rides you have to find out what style you like and what characteristics you like in a board...
Cassette used to be what all the talk was about, and all you heard about was that "green Cassette". Personally I own one of those cassettes and an oak and, ill tell you that besides a slight difference in weight there is really no difference between the decks shape and how it rides. But why hasn't oak taken off so fast? It's because it doesnt have the support like cassette used to have and like integ has now.
and what you said about wakeboarders "trying to emulate pro wakeboarders" I agree wakeskating is going more towards this as wakeskaters try to emulate other. It was cool back in the day seeing people rip on flat decks but now if you talk about flat decks you are considered a "noob," and called names, (as recently found out in a previous thread). |

a lot of people are obsessed with cassettes as well.
i think 6.0 is cool because i hadn't even heard of it until i got into wakeskating and i didnt think integritys were all that great until i rode nicks and absolutely loved it. |

-Supra-, cassette was also one of the first all wakeskate companies and really the first modern wakeskate companies. oak is newer and is just in the industry with A LOT of oter competitors. |

Well I think I'm at the bottom of the chain here
Riding a quiver of homemade boards (until my Devotid gets in ) wearing 2 year old sambas with holes in them, wearing a walmart vest, and riding behind a jetski and a boat that barely gets me up.
The stoke is there, unfortunately right now I'm the only one in this area feeling the stoke for wakeskating. This summer I'm going to be making 3 hour drives just so I can ride somewhere the stoke lives
Who cares if you are a noob, if you want that skate beneath your feet with 4 inch fins and foam grip more power to you.
To tell the truth I wish I had the money to get a X star, Integ skates, cassette skates, devotid skates, new skates, and some oak skates too, but even with all that the stoke would be the same. (no I lied, I would kill for that shizzle ) |

Oak is bad to the bone, but cassette has a completely different story...they are (or their history is) super established and they had the chance to burn memories into the subconscious of I don't know how many riders, and some of those burned memories coincide with that "green board." The 4-trac is attached to a very special time in wakeskating--I don't know that that's why everyone wants one...I think some of it is emotional contagion (of sorts). but It was a very sweet riding board as well.
and like someone said, cassette is one of the first wakeskate only brands, and coupling that with the riders that represented over the years and the "firsts" that were introduced...there was a lot of trailblazing and pioneering going on, unknowns were defined, which was done while setting an early standard for what wakeskating should look like, what it could be and where it could go.
anyway gatortails, welcome to the site. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
