Lake History is scary

I was just using google Earth to scope out potential winching spots for this summer and I discovered some horrifying news........my lake is technically a reservoir and evidently there used to be a town there before the reservoir was made............this whole town was buried underneath the smooth waters when the city water company flooded the creek...........so now I know Im riding over some dead people buried in an old German cemetery next to a church and a couple farm houses.............but that not the worst part

.........the worst was that when they flooded the area they destroyed the two most beautiful winch spots that existed!!!

yeah, my lake is one of those filled in towns too. When the water drops, you can see the old telephone poles sticking out, as well as railroad tracker leading from one side of the lake shore to the other. Pretty cool stuff

our lake is like that too,

it was flooded in 1956 and when it drops you can walk through the old homesteads etc.. soo cool to think of the history of a place. A bit like Gallipoli for us Australians.. if u don't know the story of Gallipoli i suggest you go to wiki and have a read..

same story with my lake in northcarolina actually. i think this year i am going to scuba dive it and ring the church bell but it will be really hard to get the gear up there... that lake is freaking sweet though

Theres a lake near me that has a church steeple that sticks up, but the lake i ride on flooded land, but no towns. It came around the time of the New Deal with the TVA
