Let me start by saying I made good use out of the search function and found a few posts related to the topic, but many of them were old...before this skate hit the market. I'm about to purchase a Byerly Legacy skate and I have a few Questions...

Background Info: Height: 6'1 to 6'2 Weight: 180-185
I've been wakeboarding for about 6 years and wakeskated on the side, then recently made the switch to wakeskating fulltime. Been skateboarding for about 5 years as well. I started out wakeskating with a typical Brian Grubb style...focus on w2w, indy shuvs, heelside 3's etc...but now I want to advance the technical side of my riding and learn kickflips, bigspins, etc...but I don't want to sacrifice any of my wake to wake abilities.

My main questions are this: Those of you who have this board, do you recommend the 39 or the 42? I realize the measurements are grip to grip and the actual board is a bit longer. I have a lot of experience with a catalyst 112 and learned all my w2w tricks on that. Would the 42 be too much board since I'm focusing on tech tricks? Or would the 39 give me trouble for my wake tricks that I already have locked down? Or would it make that much difference? I just want to make the most out of my $250. I know GD and Bret Little ride the 39 and have no probs with w2w stuff...but I'm thinking that has a lot to do with experience and being able to go down in size. Also, I wear a size 12.5 shoe and my feet have enough room on the 42, but my local shop didn't have a 39 to put my feet on. Are the measurements the same in the width around the kicktail area?

Finally, I normally ride with a single fin (for reasons most people already know), but I was wondering if the channels track enough to ride completely finless? I would love to just be able to go w2w and do tech stuff without have to shuv the board around to get a fin in place.

Sorry for the lengthy post but I'm looking for as much feedback as possible before I make this purchase!

You would probably be more comfortable on the 42.

Any reason why you want to go with the Legacy?

Mostly for the kicktails. I've ridden a lot of boards already, including a bi-level, and I just really like the skateboard feel that comes with it. And since the Legacy has that same feel but molded together, I really want it. Not just for the leverage for pop, but also b/c of that little pocket it creates for your foot for scooping 3 shuvs and whatnot. And that pocket just seems like it would keep your feet completely locked in on w2w stuff.

I suggest the 39. It may feel weird at first, having such a small board, but you will get use to it. A smaller board is alot easier to spin and flip.

The measurments, in width and kicktail, are almost identical between the 42 and 39 you can look at the specifications here

swampskater, Ask Bad Luck about all details between 39 & 42...but with regards to the channels and fins...i believe the channels are plenty without fins and i can always keep a hard stable edge when needed (such as w2w)...i thought it was easier to ride this board finless than with fins...

swampskater, So you've tried it and like it right? Is there any way you could try both sizes? To me it seems if you'll want to focus more on tech riding, you'd be good with the 39, and if you're still able to use the catalyst (if it's yours and you're not selling), then keep using that for w2w if you don't like the smaller legacy for it.
