|
|
Ok i'm currently in astronomy 1 at school, pretty tight class, easy A, awsome teacher. Today we were talking about the speed the earth is spinning, the speed of the orbit, and the speed of the galaxy. We got onto if our universe is moving, and if its in a sea of other universes. Amazing stuff, but the best part is, after that my friend bill who is a pretty smart AP student, gave me a ride home, he took astronomy 1 and 2, and told me about the infinite universe theory.
The theory is that if there are infinite universes, everything you have ever imagined, or anything that is possible has happened, it has to happen because we live in a universe, and if stuff goes on here, if there are infinite other universes, everything has happened. That relativly means that i've pulled a 360 flip on a wakeskate somewhere, if you believe in the theory or if if its right, but mind blowing thought eh? Anyone else thought of this or have astronomy.
Oh yea the numbers we were talking about were
Earth's speed on axis- 1,000 mph
Earths orbit around sun- 67,000 mph (2x faster then our fastest rocket)
Solar systems speed- *in my notes which we handed in, ill get them back though
Milky way galaxy's speed- Also in notes _________________ 2 Hands Working Do More Than 1000 Hands Praying

^^ yea the solar systems spinning was even faster, and the galaxy was around 2,000,000 or even billion. At the end of the lesson my teacher says "so you guys say I dont take you on field trips, but we've traveled 2,000,6800 miles or somthing like that _________________ 2 Hands Working Do More Than 1000 Hands Praying |

I took plenty of theoretical physics courses in University. Multi-Universe theories are always interesting.
If you like the idea of Multiple Universes and good Science Fiction....read "His Dark Materials" Trilogy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/His_Dark_Materials
| Quote: | | The universe is finite | .... No it is not.....according to recent measurements of the Red Shift of Super Novas, it is actually showing that the Universe is expanding at an Excellerating rate....the Universe should expand into an infinite soup of Dark Matter. _________________ Life's Kredo = "When the snake falls in love with the spagetti it's time to buy a new hat." & "I guess I need to whiskey up these corn flakes..and heroin up this Orange Juice." |

| jonnyUTAH, uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh. I don't want to get into another debate, but you can really look at it either way. I believe it is finite. It will eventually stop expanding, making it finite, the way God designed it. I guess I can see why you call the current universe infinite because we don't really have a clue when it will stop, but I would personally consider it finite as of now. And multi-universes are indeed very interesting, different laws of physics?!?! So cool. |

jonnyUTAH, that reminds me, have you heard all those people complaining about the golden compass? Sooo annoying, just cuz they shank god in the face at the end.... whiners _________________ Grrr... |

| At some point gravitation might take over and the galaxies will begin to fall back togther, resulting in a "Big Crunch" lol. |

So if something might happen, that also proposes that something might not happen. If you aren't sure that something will happen, why take a full on stand and claim that the universe is finite? If you are so sure it is finite, why not say "at some point gravity will take over and ..." instead of leaving the possibility out there that you could be wrong?
And I'm not trying to start shizzle, I'm just curious with your choice in words with that statement?
Also, if we live within these infinite universes your "Big Crunch" has already, currently is and will happen again. _________________ Scuba Steve's Wakeskate Film Libray |

Word on the Street is that there is not enough Matter, and thus gravitational force, in the Visible Universe for a Big Crunch.
I seriously doubt that the Universe is Finite - both Visible and Non... _________________ Life's Kredo = "When the snake falls in love with the spagetti it's time to buy a new hat." & "I guess I need to whiskey up these corn flakes..and heroin up this Orange Juice." |

...each universe is a kit that people at home can put together. It usually goes pretty smoothly. All you need is a big Allen wrench. See, look at saturn:

| if there are an infinte number of universes to the point where every single possibility could be a reality does this mean it is possible for god to just not exist in one universe? |

Dude...These people measuring this crap are just going off other peoples studies. If there is one error that anyone has ever made your concept of the universe is all out of wack.
Think about mapquest. If I says the place I'm going is only 457 miles from my house. And I have enough money and gas to go 457 miles I'll be screwed. Why? Because it's never exactly right. And this is a well known website that can get you anywhere in America. ok. So we can physically measure the distance from my house to the place I'm going...How? Because we can travel there. Now if that info isnt exactly right. How can anyone be sure of the distance of speed of something we can no actually go to. Dudes are using math problems, previous studies and telescopes to come up with this info...eh nothing is going to be 100% correct, period
The only thing in life that is certain is nothing is certain... _________________ 10101 |

Mr. Top Hat, I like your thinking...And really us are Humans...the smartest Human ever(which is not possible to judge) and the dumbest human ever(once again not possible to judge) will/could have two different views of this world...and both will think they are right. But chances are neither are right? We dont have enough knowledge or wisdom of this earth and outer earth to judge anything...
PLUS,Why are we wasting our knowledge and money on researching this like that when we have bigger things to look into.( Cancer, Aids... stuff like that) _________________ 10101 |

Classy,
i believe many people ARE looking into Cancer & Aids, maybe the answer is in the universe... _________________
