So there's this nice lake around here and I want to put cheap rail in. I know it will get taken out soon, and I dont really care. How long and wide do you think is adequate? I need to be able to pre build this pile of shít and take it to the spot via boat. would 8 inches wide and 15ish feet be good? And why type of wood would you suggest? Come on, I know there are lots of crafty craftsmen on here. ftw!

sounds like you already got a good idea. i would build it as cheap as possible if you think its just gonna be tore down. oh and i learned this week that just a plain ole 2x6 slides great as long as its wet.

24 ft would be perfect but depending on your boat size... .. donno. Me and top hat made a 12 ft one with 2 2x4 trex on top, the width was pefect but we both wished it was liek 12 ft longer lol. check out the nick taylor rail u can just put it in and take it out whenver u want to use it.

I'd make two 8 foot sections. 2x6's with single wide trex on top.. get some flanges and metal poles and you got yourself a 16ft flat... cut some wedges and you got yourself a 16ft incline. Not too short, Not too long.

scroll down to Nick's post for the parts list..

No point in spending money on a rail if you are gonna leave it there and let it get jacked.. Build one of these and bring it wherever you want, whenever you want.

Badcious. If I can make one thats mobile that would be prime. The only reason I wanted to build one that was so hooptie was because the forest cops take them awayzzz. Im going to start this tomorrow.

Will paint tomorrow.
Going to be great to use, and toss in the weeds until the next day. Perfect quick fix! Thanks to all that shared the info and help.

Sorry for the stupid questions but:
What do you use to pound the rail in with? Rubber mallet?
How do you pull the rail out? Pull the boat up alongside it and pull it out with a couple buddies?
How many feet did you pound the poles in? Is 2ft enough in sugar sand?

Once again I appologize for the dumb questions. I'm really confused.

About 100 bucks.

A couple feet should be good enough. If you get a piece of wood and lay it over the rail and pound it with a sledge hammer it will go in perfect. As far as pulling it out, just eat a big bowl of wheaties, or get some red balls. It'll give you wiiiiiiiings.
